While EVs steal plenty of headlines these days, the age of gasoline-fueled performance is far from over – in fact, it’s never been more impressive. That much is evidenced by the incredible array of four-digit-horsepower customs you see running around on the street boasting daily-driver usability and show-stopping looks. Now, we’re getting the low-down on exactly that with this supercharged 1966 Chevy II Nova.
Recently hitting the web thanks to AutotopiaLA, this 1966 Chevy II Nova restomod was built by the folks at Driven Speed Shop in Arizona, and although it was originally intended to be a hardcore street machine, the project turned out to be a show-quality build. Even so, the owner still plans to drive it – hard.
Under the hood, we find a Casey Wagner-built supercharged LS7 crate engine with a Whipple 2.9L blower, the combination of which makes 1,080 horsepower on E85 and about 715 wheel horsepower on pump gas. Output is routed through a Bowler-built T56 manual and spins a Ford nine-inch rear end with 3.70 gears, all mounted on a Roadster Shop Fast Track chassis. This Chevy II also uses a full manual brake setup with Baer components. Other standout features include a custom drive-by-wire throttle system using a Tilton hanging pedal for better control and feel.
This Chevy II was originally a beat-up drag car, and Driven Speed Shop replaced most of the body panels and custom-fabricated the entire floor, firewall, and engine bay to fit the modern chassis. Much of the engine bay was designed and fabricated in-house, including 3D-printed intake ducting, a tucked and reshaped front bumper, and a fully smoothed and modified hood to clear the supercharger.
Inside, SoCal Rods built a beautiful custom interior, starting with a heavily modified 1965 Chevy C10 dashboard. The interior is trimmed in Alcantara and leather, with Porsche window switches, a digital Holley Pro Dash, a custom center console, and wireless phone charger.
Finished in factory Audi Daytona Pearl Gray, the Chevy II sits on Forgeline wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sports (325 rear, 255 front).

Gotta like that. Great build.
Yea baby! A+
Impressive modification.
Also, isn’t there a “means” to put in adaptive air ride control on a 2023 GMC Danali NOW because when purchased during the COVID market availability we were told it could be added later but our dealer here in Prescott says it cannot. Any help? Thanks.
Nice, does that make it a Super Nova? j/k
I think this car definitely qualifies as a “Super Nova”. Nice one.
