Upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV Spotted In South America

Back in January, GM Authority reported that the Wuling Starlight S would be joining Chevrolet’s crossover lineup in South America. Now, the model was spotted in the region, which will seemingly become the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV.

2026 Chevy Captiva EV

The upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV has just been captured undisguised in South America, where spy photographers managed to capture a bunch of Chevrolet’s upcoming all-electric crossovers in what appears to be a Colombian customs vehicle warehouse. This sighting confirms our exclusive report from earlier this year about the vehicle joining the brand’s portfolio under the Captiva nameplate.

Specifically, spy photographers captured a batch of three units of the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV in an imported-vehicle parking lot in the South American country, including one beige and two dark gray units. All had their emblems uncovered from the typical protective plastic wrapping during transport. As such, these are final production vehicles already approved for sale.

Wuling Starlight S

This marks the first time the upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV has been spotted uncamouflaged and adorning its official name in South America, where it is expected to soon make its global debut. Chevrolet’s variant of the Wuling Starlight S has been undergoing testing since last year in Brazil and Colombia, sporting eye-catching multi-colored camouflage patterns with the intriguing phrase “soon, your life will be more electric” in both Portuguese and Spanish.

Furthermore, the spotted 2026 Chevy Captiva EV also confirms the adoption of the all-electric powertrain for its debut in major South American countries instead of the PHEV variant. The 2026 Captiva EV is expected to boast an electric motor generating 150 kW or 201 horsepower and 310 Nm or 228 pound-feet of torque, powered by a 60 kWh battery pack and a range of up to 510 km (317 miles), as debuted by the Starlight S.

The upcoming 2026 Chevy Captiva EV will officially debut in a South American country in the coming months, possibly in Brazil as one of five Chevrolet launches planned for this year. In any case, the 2026 Captiva EV will join the Chevrolet vehicle lineup in several emerging markets around the world as one of the brand’s next affordable electric utility vehicles.

  1. Looks like Buick Electra E5 and a lot better than NOX EV. Could, based on design, do well around the world.
I know nothing about Wurling quality but GM builds, including joint ventures, too many distinct platforms.
Can’t believe Chevy China still earns a profit. Might be smart to partner with Wurling regaring global line up if a better battery is found.

    1. They weren’t profitable in China, and just took a massive restructuring charge in the final quarter of 2024, but they have been sustaining growth in both raw shipments and marketshare over the past three quarters.

I don’t see that they have too many distinct platforms. Even with as many models as they’ve introduced, they are predominantly either Ultium (BEV3/BT1) or GSEV. They have new hybrid drivetrains as well, but again shared across many models.

And new battery technology doesn’t require a departure from the current platforms. Ultium was designed to accommodate different cells and modules; in China they have always used BYD blade batteries, for example, and the upcoming Bolt will likely use prismatic cells.

  2. Can’t sell EVs in the US, so let’s spend tons of money and energy trying to sell them elsewhere around the world…

    1. Except for the part where they are selling EVs in the United States. Profitably, with sustained growth over the past eight quarters.

  3. I’m sick and tired of Chinese POS are occupied Chevy model portfolios. How terrible!

  4. The gas version of the Chevy Captiva has been sold in many nations, including where I live. It is smaller than the Equinox. I know because I have a 2009 Equinox and I parked it next to the Captiva to compare. The “Nox” is still the best CUV in the U.S. as I have driven both the gas and electric versions.

    1. No, re-badged Wuling Starlight S, as it says in the article.

  7. It seems like a decent budget type E.V. Wish they would build them (with a few upgrades) in the good ole USA.
