The Chevy Trax Is The Best-Selling Foreign Import In The U.S. Right Now

The Chevy Trax – rising to popularity with the arrival of its second generation, now in its second model year with the 2025 Chevrolet Trax – is the top-selling imported nameplate in the United States for Q1 2025, according to CarGurus research.

The CarGurus Intelligence Report for the first quarter of 2025 shows that the Chevy Trax accounted for 5.7 percent of total imported vehicle sales in Q1, putting it in first place.

The compact Bow Tie crossover beat strong contenders such as the Subaru Forester, achieving second place with 5.4 percent. The third- and fourth-place imports were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, accounting for 3.4 percent and 3 percent of total sales respectively. Another Chevrolet model, the Chevy Trailblazer, was in 7th place with 2.7 percent of total sales.

What’s more, the Chevy Trax had the fourth lowest days supply in the models with the lowest inventory, indicating it’s flying off dealer lots. The model had a 46 days supply on average at the end of March 2025, well below the optimal 60 days supply and showing how demand is outpacing the arrival of new units from overseas. The import with the lowest inventory was the Toyota Land Cruiser with a 36 days supply.

With an average Q1 list price of $25,361, the Chevy Trax is part of a dwindling segment of imports – affordable vehicles in the North American market. The rarity of the Chevy Trax is underlined by the fact only 13 percent of new vehicles have an MSRP under $30,000 versus 37 percent in Q1 2020 immediately before the COVID pandemic, helping to account for why consumers are eager to snap up the little Bow Tie crossover.

Still, the Trax may not be a deal much longer with the tariffs of President Donald Trump about to cause significant changes in the U.S. auto market. Affordable models are likely to be hit hard, though the exact results remain uncertain. For now, the Chevy Trax is the third most affordable vehicle in the U.S.

CarGurus notes that the affordable cars with low days supply indicate that popular models are “largely affordable, fuel-efficient nameplates, suggesting that today’s buyers are prioritizing value, efficiency, and everyday usability” – matching the characteristics of the Trax.

    1. You and other nay sayers just don’t get it through your skulls. Imports of any brand HAVE HIGHER QUALITY than union assembled US models. They simply care more.

      1. You know this for a fact their employees care more? Most of the US union employees I work with care about their jobs and the product they build.

    2. Our 2024 Trax LS has been brought in for one recall (timing issue update after auto stop-start) and one warranty claim (ambient light sensor not working correctly in bright sunlight) within the first 100 miles. Both fixes took less than an hour each time to complete. Since then we’ve had zero problems.
Ours came with the WarrantyForeverâ„¢ lifetime powertrain warranty included for free with purchase. We paid just over $24K out the door, including sales tax and state registration. So far we’re really happy with the vehicle after 16 months and 2700 miles of owning it.

          1. From your post it looks like you are the one that does not have a brain.

I’m not ripping the product, just the piss poor management. I would definitely consider the Trailblazer or Envista if I were in the market for a new car. However, if I wanted to buy a KOREAN IMPORT, I would buy a Kia or a Hyundai.

  5. I saw one the other day it was nice looking, but the lack of reliability would steer me towards a Toyota. Thankfully I don’t need another car.

    1. Any Toyota would cost more than this, unless its a Corolla…
So I don’t get your point. Just because its cheap does NOT mean its unreliable…
So all the naysayers here have to do is complain, complain complain and make OTHER’s lives miserable (IN ADDITION TO THE PROBLEMS CAUSED BY Ms Mary…)…

  7. I love my 2025 chevy trax sr2……but on Jan 13th I hit a deer coming home from work and it has been in the shop ever since because they can’t get a headlight from GM!!! No parts until this April..the shop was told!!! I bought this brand new with 47 miles on it back in July 24…main reason was to have a full warranty up to 60,000. But lesson learned don’t buy any newer than 2 years… .or just buy a Ford!!!

  8. The Trax [and Envista] is let down by a poor safety rating and marginal headlights. When the 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback comes out later this year, fewer Trax will be sold.
