The Chevy Silverado Was The Best-Selling Vehicle In These Eight States In 2024

The Chevy Silverado was the top-selling vehicle in eight U.S. states last year, per a recent report.

According to data reported by Edmunds, the Chevy Silverado was the number-one most popular vehicle in Alaska, Arizona, Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia over the course of the 2024 calendar year. The Edmunds report cites IHS Markit data, with only new retail vehicle registrations to individuals considered. The study did not include rental sales or government vehicle registrations as part of its data set.

In all eight U.S. states where the Chevy Silverado ranked as the best-selling vehicle, the Ford F-Series ranked as the second-best-selling vehicle. Notably, Edmunds reports that the Ford F-Series was the number-one best-selling model across the U.S. during the 2024 calendar year, taking the top spot in a whopping 24 U.S. states. The Chevy Silverado was the second best-selling model across the U.S., with the Tesla Model Y ranked third, the Toyota RAV4 ranked fourth, the Honda CR-V ranked fifth, the GMC Sierra ranked sixth, the Toyota Camry ranked seventh, the Ram 1500/2500/3500 ranked eighth, the Honda Civic ranked ninth, and the Tesla Model 3 ranked tenth.

Notably, the GMC Sierra was the number-one best-selling model in the state of Arkansas. The Toyota RAV4 was the top-selling model in seven states and the top-selling “SUV” across the U.S. The Tesla Model Y was the top-selling EV nationwide. In terms of raw vehicle volume, Toyota was the best-selling make in the U.S. last year, followed by Ford, Chevrolet, Honda, and Hyundai. Also of note is the Chevy Trax, which managed to break into the ranks of best-sellers by grabbing a spot on the list of the top models sold in the state of Oklahoma.

General Motors refreshed the Chevy Silverado 1500 for the 2022.5 model year (otherwise known as the 2022-interim model year), while the Silverado HD was refreshed for the 2024 model year. Looking ahead, GM is expected to launch the next-generation Silverado 1500 for the 2027 model year.

  1. I still don’t see how Ford and Chevy full size pickup trucks are still the top selling vehicles in the US. I still see tons of unsold 2024 pickups on dealer lots and on dealer websites, and we’re already 1/4 into 2025.

    1. The numbers were vehicles SOLD in 2024, not the 2024 model year. Thus, a good number of those sold in 2024 could have been…. 2023 leftovers that people waited to buy in 2024 when huge incentives were offered to finally move them off the dealer lots! 🙂
