Next-Gen 2027 Chevy Silverado May Redesign This Critical Cabin Feature

General Motors is set to launch an all-new fifth generation for the Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup truck in conjunction with the 2027 model year, and, as is tradition, GM Authority is obsessively covering every single detail. For those that may have missed it, we’ve been pouring over 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 spy photos, comparing design details, revealing new tech items, and sharing exclusive information. Now, we’re back at it with what appears to be a redesign for a critical cabin feature, namely, the A-pillar grab handles.

A closer look at recent 2027 Chevy Silverado spy shots reveals a revamp for the standard A-pillar grab handle setup. On the current Silverado and GMC Sierra, the grab handle shows a V-shaped design mounted directly to the A-pillar, providing a sturdy place to help ease ingress and egress. The redesigned grab handles appear to be more or less in the same location, but the overall shape differs, with the new handles taking on what appears to be a slightly thinner, sleeker appearance, in particular around the upper portion of the handle.

Of course, that may be something of an optical illusion as well, because there’s definitely at least one change to point here, namely the lack of any visible panels on the upper and lower sections of the grab handle “V.” Without these panels, the new handle definitely gets a more streamlined look.

As covered previously, the new 2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 will also present fresh exterior styling, including headlamps that are mounted lower in the front fascia than on the current truck, as well as fog lamps positioned closer to the lower bumper. A front airdam has also been spotted on prototype models, while the roof-mounted communications fin appears to be missing. Rear-end styling includes new taillights and a new LED signature, plus quad-tipped exhausts, the latter of which replaces the “HDMI-style” exhaust outlets found on current models.

Powertrain options for the next-gen Silverado will include GM’s sixth-generation Small Block V8, expected to bring improved fuel economy. The TurboMax 2.7L I4 L3B and 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax offered currently are also expected to return, while a plug-in hybrid variant is expected to join the lineup within the model’s first two years on the market.

The nexxt-gen Silverado will also ride on the updated GM T1-2 architecture, marking yet another major change with the launch of the nameplate’s fifth generation. Per usual, we’ll be there to cover every little detail, so stay tuned for more.

  1. That is such a perfect commentary on the sheer size of pickup trucks today. We did not need grab handles to get in and out of pickups before they were all “fluffed by a friend’s helping hand” before appearing onstage. Funny thing is, those old, lower-riding, smaller trucks DID THE JOB, with some STILL DOING THE JOB after decades! Will these late-model behemoths still be around as long? Doubtful… too many things to go wrong that an owner cannot fix on his/her own.

    1. It is too early to tell about these late model trucks…..yes the issues they have is unacceptable…..
We will know the full picture from 20-30 years down the line…

        1. The fact is they are not obliged to support beyond 10 years.
Its the same with other manufacturers…
Only some BMW, Mercedes, Euro and maybe Toyota support longer…..

  2. My thoughts exactly. Even my 2wd I have to stretch and climb into and I’m 6 ft. I hate running boards. Truck always rides smoother with some weight in the bed.

  4. That A-pillar is huge. That has got to create one hell of a blind spot.

    1. Nothing worse than the blind spot that the huge tow mirrors create on my 2017 LTZ 4×4.

  5. How about an engine redesign! The trucks are very beautiful inside and out…,but its the engines that have been the issue!!! They keep blowing up….Lets Fix the engines before adding more bells and whistles!!!

  6. I heard they will redesign the engine completely….because the tolerances are too tight and they cannot fix them anymore so they will recall them some point this year…

Also, based on forums, anecdotes, alone we cannot judge how many have blown up repeatedly and how many HAVE NOT….
Only the manufacturers knows the real number, but it is an issue that needs to be addressed.

  8. I hope the front end dont look like the rest of the Chevrolet fleet of vehicles. Every one of them looks the same. Be different Chevrolet.

    1. Gotta make them the same so same part can be used across different models, which = $$$$$ savings for GM

  9. Stop mounting the mirrors to the door skins and put them back right in front of the door glass.

  10. Give us new and improved seats GM!!! I have a 23 Silverado LT and the seats are so uncomfortable on long drives. Every other brand has more comfortable seats.
