Kyle Larson took a shot at the Bristol triple, aiming to bring his NASCAR Chevy to Victory Lane in each of the three national series races at the series’ shortest racetrack over the weekend. While the Truck Series win slipped through his fingers, Larson more than made up for it by grabbing checkered flags in both the Xfinity race on April 12th, 2025, and Sunday’s Cup Series race on April 13th in dominant fashion.
Larson’s No. 07 NASCAR Chevy Silverado finished second in the Truck Series race on Friday night, falling to Chandler Smith’s No. 38 Ford F-150 in the closing stage of the race. He regrouped and hit the track in the No. 17 Chevy for Saturday’s Xfinity Series race, putting on a clinic in the division as he led 277 of 300 laps. He finished well shut of the second- and third-place runners, crossing the line 2.054 seconds ahead of his fellow Bow Tie Brand racers, Carson Kvapil in P2 and Justin Allgaier in P3.
Larson dedicated the victory to his friend and PR rep, Jon Edwards, who unexpectedly died before the Bristol weekend.
“It’s awesome,” Larson said of the Xfinity win. “I wish I could have won [the Truck Series] last night – just came up a little bit short. It’s cool to get a win this weekend for Jon and everybody who’s been a part of his life.”
Kyle Larson also said he was confident about his shot at another win at Bristol in his No. 5 NASCAR Chevy during the Cup Series race – and he backed that swagger up by dominating that race, too. He led 411 of 500 laps, fending off the Toyotas of Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs as the laps ticked down, holding onto the lead despite brushing the wall with five laps to go. This time, Larson finished 2.250 ahead of the runner-up Hamlin.
“This one’s definitely for Jon,” Larson said in Victory Lane for the Cup Series. “He’s just a great guy. Successful weekend here. Wish he was going to be here with us to celebrate, but I know he’s celebrating with us in spirit.”
