GM is expected to end production of the 2025 Cadillac XT5 and 2025 Cadillac XT6 luxury crossovers at the GM Spring Hill plant in Tennessee on November 26th, 2025, GM Authority has learned.
The future for both models has been somewhat uncertain for several months now. Back in January, GM Authority was the first to report that the first-generation Cadillac XT5 and XT6 would be phased out from the luxury automaker’s North American lineup following the end of the 2025 model year. To note, this does not apply to the second-generation Cadillac XT5 and mildly refreshed XT6 offered in China.
GM Authority reached out to Cadillac for a statement, and received the following response:
“This year, two additional crossovers, Optiq and Vistiq, will join the Cadillac portfolio. Beyond that we have no portfolio adjustments to announce and can’t comment on the speculation. Cadillac’s crossovers remain very popular among luxury customers as evident by the recent sales success of XTs and Lyriq, which became the best-selling luxury EV in 2024,” a Cadillac spokesperson told GM Authority.
Fast forward to April, and a report from CNBC outlined that while the Cadillac XT6 was set to be discontinued after the 2025 model year, the Cadillac XT5 was expected to remain in production until the end of the 2026 model year. According to CNBC, the move was part of the luxury marque’s broader electrification strategy, rather than a response to the recent Trump tariffs or other supply chain issues.
Now, however, it’s unclear if the XT5 will in fact make it to the 2026 model year, as it could actually get the axe alongside the XT6, per exclusive GM Authority coverage. For reference, the November end-of-production date for the 2025-model-year XT5 and XT6 is relatively late in the calendar year, with the start of regular production (SORP) dates for previous model years lining up as follows:
- 2025 model year – July 2024
- 2024 model year – June 2023
- 2023 model year – June 2022
- 2022 model year – June 2021
With all that considered, it looks as though the 205 XT5 and 2025 XT6 will get an extended production period, unless, of course, production plans change. That said, we have yet to hear an updated production plan for the continuation of either model into the 2026 model year, which would line up with our exclusive coverage in January that both crossovers would be discontinued after the 2025 model year.
As always, we’ll keep our ear to the ground and report back with any further updates.

I understand why Caddy is doing what it’s doing but I don’t necessarily agree. It’s very bold to axe one of your best selling vehicles over the last decade(XT5).
On the flip side, when one of your best-selling vehicles fails to crack 30k in sales four years in a row and most recently has been beaten by your inaugural EV, that might be a sign.
I think that GM probably would have been less aggressive with the Cadillac brand if the electrification of Buick had happened as planned, but I suspect the (almost) all-EV portfolio is likely to outperform the outgoing ICE portfolio. At minimum it is a bold answer to the “GM only makes compliance vehicles” charge.
XT4, XT5, and XT6 all beat Lyriq in the 1st Q of 2025.
That’s a single quarter of data. Look at the last four quarters:
Lyriq: 26,902
XT5: 26,510
XT4: 22,301
XT6: 20,297
And now the Lyriq-V is hitting dealers, so expect a boost from that.
So after ALL the attention, marketing, special leases, etc… a 10 year OLD ICE car lost by 400 units… not the “own” you think it is.
So now, we know when to attend Cadillac’s funeral.
If Barra gets her way, GM would go all electric-made in the US. All other ICE vehicles made in other countries. Outside trucks and big suvs, all light duty vehicles have 1 engine. Ford still has 3 engines to choose from in the Explorer. Where do you thinks buyers are going? Where is the common sense?
A more natural analog to the Explorer would be the Chevy Traverse or GMC Acadia, not a Cadillac, and both of those are still ICE. And while the Explorer does offer two engine options (third is PPV only), the majority of their sales use a turbo I4 with output similar to the GM vehicles.
Move up a size class and Ford only offers a V6, while GM offers a choice of two V8s or a turbo-diesel V6.
Discontinuing the XT5 and XT6 is a travesty. These are both great vehicles and would sell very well against the competition if updated and properly promoted. The Chinese XT5 is a beautiful
vehicle that would sell like crazy in the US. An XT6 updated with the same or similar design language would also be a strong seller, provided both were properly advertised.
I had a 2017 XT5 and a 2022 XT6. I now have had my 2024 Lyriq for 16 months and 33,000 miles.
The Lyriq is so much better than the XT5 or XT6. It is fun, fast, comfortable, quiet, easy the charge in the garage. Road trips have gone very well. Tesla Superchargers with an adapter are the best. The only maintenance is tire rotation. Super Cruise is incredible. Infotainment screen has a lot of fun and useful functionality.
Cadillac is signing its own death warrant by going all electric. This pipe dream will not work at least this early in the EV debacle, lol.
I started my career with Oldsmobile Division June 1966 in Lansing, 3 years of being in different departments for 33 months before being transferred to the Atlanta Zone, I surmised a long time ago the powers to be were not going to be happy until the Corporation was changed to China Motors General Motors Corporation. Personally I feel deep in my heart that the head of the Corporation is a figure head that takes orders instead of giving them.
GM is becoming Mandate Motors giving us vehicles we don’t want. Did GM forget Team Freedom won the election?
Slow learner, huh? Who do you think paid for much of EV mandate lobbying? Many automakers wanted the change because EVs need considerably less parts and less workers to manufacture. Has zero to do w/environment except selling, like Tesla, carbon credits which is it’s biggest profit center.
GM claims EV operations will be profitable this year. Barra wants to produce more EVs and take advantage of Tesla’s 70% dip
because a majority of Americans don’t like his “team freeform” work. Tesla won’t regain California share, it’s most important region, and GM is ready to take advantage before VW Scout gains popularity.
Any company can assemble an EV whether Sony, Foxcom, or other tech companies with architects ready to do. A Nissan bankruptcy would jump start EV growth making plans
available.
You don’t know much about auto industry. Every carmaker dislike “team freedom” policy and tax cuts won’t make up for it. Anyway, restricting library books, interfering w/colleges, bullying companies doesn’t scream freedom. Neither does messing with consumer choice
Why don’t you bring the GT4 to the USS ? I won’t buy in a minute… With many others !
I will be leaving Cadillc when our 2 XT5 ‘s will be replaced .. Mary refuses to give the buyer what we want ..
I wonder what hearse and funeral limousine builders are going to use for a platform?
CADILLAC is still far and away the most popular platform for these. Perhaps the LYRIQ would fill that need. But then again, is that design cut and splice friendly?
I often wonder why they just don’t use full sized vans for hearses. No cutting and splicing needed and plenty of room to even return to a side loading option. Just get GM to rebadge the van as a CADILLAC for it if it that important. Otherwise the hearse builder could just put their own badge on and make it the center of attention.
One interesting outcome when the EV is on fire, the “unliving” person gets cremated.
Barra loves cancelling profitable vehicle programs! Did the same w/Malibu when R&D was already spent on a beautiful Regal that could have received unique front facia rebadged as Malibu. Would have matched Accord in desirability and reliability.
The XT models still earn profits w/redesigns already done by GM Shanghai. XT 5 and 6 could easily be turned into hybrids. Yes, GM needs a Tesla fighter but the XT line could still be accommodated along w/ICE Escalade.
Cadillac is too expensive, a Audi rival, so will never be GM’s sole solution to Tesla. Buick’s just introduced Chinese EVs would be perfect Tesla fighters. An all EV Cadillac-Buick should be set up for Europe and Australia
