Here May Be Why Your Chevy Silverado Dash Is Squeaking, Rattling Or Creaking

GM has released a fix for the Chevy Silverado dash, floor, or center console area, making squeaking, rattling, or creaking sounds. The issue tends to occur during acceleration, during brake torquing, while driving over small bumps at low speeds, and when the engine goes into Active Fuel Management (AFM) mode. Affected models include the 2024 and 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 equipped with the 5.3L V8 L84 or 6.2L V8 L87.

According to bulletin PIT6206A issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the noise could be caused by an O2 sensor connector contacting the truck’s body or floor.

If contact is found, then GM technicians are instructed to ensure the connector’s plastic retainer is fully installed and seated in the corresponding mounting tab hole. If properly secured, it will be kept away from the body and prevent any unwanted noises.

The NHTSA bulletin describes the noise as a squeak, rattle, or creak, as well as an itch, buzz, squawk, vibration, or rub.

The naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine develops 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, and the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine develops 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

General Motors refreshed the Chevy Silverado 1500 for the 2022.5 model year (otherwise known as the 2022 interim model year), while the Silverado HD was refreshed for the 2024 model year. Looking ahead, GM is expected to launch the next-generation Silverado 1500 for the 2027 model year.

As a reminder, the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 continues to be underpinned by the GM T1 platform under the sheet metal. The truck is produced at three facilities: the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada, and the GM Silao plant in Mexico. GM recently announced increased truck production at the Fort Wayne facility as a response to President Donald Trump’s new 25-percent tariff on vehicles imported to the United States.

  4. With some research my 2024 GMC AT4 loses time when I’m out of cell service. My question is why ? My cell phone keeps time while I’m out of cell service. Is GM depending on cell service and not with GPS ? even On Star is dependent on AT&T. What and why is GM so dependent on cell service? here in Colorado there is a number of areas that aren’t covered..
