GMC Dealer Inventory Down In March 2025

GMC new vehicle inventory dropped by about 12 days supply to 74 days supply in March 2025 as auto buyers scoured lots for purchases, motivated by likely price increases and vehicle unavailability resulting from Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Dealerships had an average 86 days supply of GMC vehicles in February 2025, the same as in January 2025 but up from December 2024 when vigorous sales caused a 70 days supply, even lower than March.

GMC vehicles aren’t selling off quite as fast as some other GM brands but demand for Big Red’s offerings is clearly outpacing the arrival of new shipments. The inventory is getting closer to the optimal 60 days supply preferred by the auto sector, but is still elevated.

Among individual models, those with the highest days supply appear to be electric vehicles, as is typical with the market. The GMC Hummer EV SUV, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup and the GMC Sierra EV all have inventory numbers higher than the brand’s average supply. Much lower are inventory numbers for the GMC Savana, the Terrain crossover and the Yukon SUV.

The inventory at all U.S. dealerships plunged by more than 21 percent between February and March 2025, from an 89 days supply to a 70 days supply. Ten of the major automakers have seen their inventory collapse by an even greater amount of a 30 days supply or greater, up to a 54 days supply lost in one case, that of Lincoln.

As a result of “the import tariff announcement creating urgency in the final five days of the month,” sales spiked at the end of March and continued to be elevated into early April. Prices were up 1.9 percent year-over-year for the third month and down 0.6 percent from February, but these modest increases aren’t likely to last long.

The inventory and selection of vehicles will probably continue to drop in the coming months while prices should climb, then soar. Cox remarks that “without a policy change in Washington, consumers should anticipate higher prices and fewer discounts on new vehicles by summer.”
