GM UK Design Studio Teases Upcoming GMC Concept Vehicle Reveal

GM has opened an advanced new design studio in Royal Leamington Spa, England, led by Julian Thomson, former Jaguar design boss and the man who designed the original Lotus Elise and the Range Rover Evoque. The new design studio has already shown off two examples of its handiwork: a radical Chevy Corvette EV concept with wing doors and a split rear windshield and a few teaser images of a new GMC concept.

The close-up teaser images of the GMC concept, which was designed in collaboration with Detroit’s GMC design team, don’t reveal very much. But they have us thinking this will be a futuristic design study rather than a precursor to a production vehicle.

Starting with a close-up of the light signature, three identical horizontal slats are stacked on each other with a longer line above them. This is a departure from the C-shaped lighting designs we’ve seen from GMC in recent years. However, it reminds us of the horizontal lines extending from the headlights of the GMC Sierra EV.

We see the theme of the three stacked horizontal lines repeated in another image where they’re floating where a door is presumably open, since we see an interior with a flat floor beyond them. They have red lights, implying that we’re looking at the back of the vehicle.

That’s it for the exterior teaser images. An interior image shows two seats with a center console between them. Lights on a flat surface toward the front of the console imply some sort of capacitive touch controls. The seats themselves have a floating headrest design and pronounced side bolsters. There’s a glass canopy overhead that extends to the sides of the vehicle.

Finally, there are two close-up images of what appear to be interior trim pieces. They bear the geographic coordinates of two locations: Leamington Spa, England, and Warren, Michigan, which is home to GM’s Technical Center campus, its primary design and engineering center.

We’re not sure what to expect when this GMC concept is fully unveiled later in 2025, but it’s shaping up to be a departure from the Professional Grade brand’s usual lineup of trucks and SUVs.

  3. From the bizarre cabin geometry, it almost seems like it might be a van-esque vehicle. Maybe an EV Savana? Maybe another failed attempt at a city orientated van/MPV? Or God forbid, something to rival Musk’s RoboTaxi. In either case, a shame that this is what work hours are being spent on – digitally rendered castles in Spain. At least the Firebirds I-III were “functional.” Hilarious to think that some European “advanced” design team is going to crack the code for the next GMC product.

  8. So long as this look won’t have any major influence on the Next Gen. Sierra and that this is just a design study which could soley be for an entirely new vehicle , I’m opened to see what lies ahead.
