The automaker’s South American subsidiary is expanding its commercial reach with the new GM Tooling business unit, focused on the industrial sector, which will be responsible for providing tooling services to medium- and large-sized companies in Brazil. With this new initiative, GM continues its expansion as a service company and now offers customized solutions to the industry, utilizing cutting-edge technologies and specialized labor.

“With the opening of our Tool Shop, we now offer complete and customized solutions, such as large-scale stamping tools, just-in-time technical support and agile communication with our specialists,” said GM South America Vice President of Manufacturing, Luis Mesa. “These services, which are often difficult to find in the market, are now available to facilitate and optimize the logistics and production processes of several companies,” he added.

Specifically, GM Tooling is launching a full suite of industrial engineering services for automotive manufacturers, auto parts manufacturers, and companies in the metalworking sector in general. As such, the company will now offer its extensive experience with exclusive engineering, design, machining, construction, and validation solutions for tools and parts at one of the biggest large-scale Tooling Tryout Centers in Latin America.

GM Tooling services include 2D/3D machining, laser cutting, welding and heat treatment, assembly and finishing of stamping and edgebanding tools, as well as the manufacture of assembly and inspection fixtures, handling equipment, and general mechanical projects. It also offers design and construction of injection molds for plastic parts, bending tools, prototype handling equipment (racks), and CNC programming.

The GM Tooling workshop is located in the GM São Caetano do Sul industrial complex in São Paulo, which serves as the headquarters for GM Brazil and its subsidiary, GM South America. Services are offered directly at the facility, with a high level of automation that promises to reduce costs and develop patents. In addition to the Brazilian market, GM Tooling exports a significant portion of its production to countries such as the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Argentina.
