GM has launched a Customer Satisfaction Program for affected 2025 Chevy Equinox crossovers that were delivered without a garage door opener after the buyer was charged for a garage door opener.
GM Customer Satisfaction Program number N242485840 offers both a reimbursement payment to owners of affected 2025 Chevy Equinox units and a reprogramming fix that will make remote garage door opening possible.
According to the bulletin, customers affected by this issue will receive a $250 reimbursement check from GM via their dealer. Additionally, dealer service personnel are instructed to reprogram the radio of the involved 2025 Equinox units. This will enable the virtual garage door button. The fix requires no physical parts and will be available through April 30th, 2027.
To recap, the situation arose in the first place because at the time the 2025 Chevy Equinox was launched, debuting the crossover’s fourth generation, units were shipped with a non-functional Universal Home Remote (RPO code UG1). This remote is normally included and only available with the optional $2,050 or $2,200 Convenience Package II (RPO code ZQ3) on the LT trim level, which is equipped as standard on the Activ and RS trims.
The Universal Home Remote is operated through the infotainment system touchscreen, with on-screen or virtual buttons. The LT also offered a garage door opener as a $250 LPO/dealer-installed option (RPO code 5LE). However, as GM Authority covered back in October 2024, this option was under constraint. Some customers were charged for it even though their vehicle wasn’t equipped with it when they took delivery.
While the wording of the Customer Service program is somewhat vague, it appears customers with affected 2025 Chevy Equinox crossovers will get reimbursed for an uninstalled garage door opener and that dealers will reprogram the infotainment system to enable the virtual garage door opener buttons (seemingly the same as RPO code UG1).
These constraints will be resolved by the arrival of the 2026 Chevy Equinox, which will cut the Gordian knot by simply not offering the LPO or dealer-installed garage door opener option (RPO code 5LE). Pricing for the new model year will start at a base MSRP of $29,995 for the LT trim with FWD and range up to $36,395 for the range-topping RS trim configured with AWD. The official configurator for the 2026 model year is currently live.
Among other changes, the 2026 Equinox will introduce the Polar White Tricoat (color code G4J) exterior paint, along with adding a drive mode selector to the LT trim and – though it doesn’t include the feature at launch – will possibly introduce a Trailering Package (RPO code V92)Â at some point during the model year.
Both the 2025 Chevy Equinox and its 2026 successor ride on the GM D2 platform beneath the body panels. Production of the 2026 Equinox began on March 17th, 2025 at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

Not that it matters since they’re all made in Mexico, but GM had better buckle down and get the ’26s right (which began production on March 17). They sure screwed up the ’25s. No surprise, really.
Yes, we are taking delivery of a 2025 GMC Terrain today. My wife wants a cargo shade. The dealer says they are not available. My wife will not be carrying Mary Barra’s picture in her wallet today. GM is a joke!

I use the opener that came with the door. So far, no emotional scars. But sometimes deep trauma can take years to surface . I remain hopeful … and no recalls on the opener.
I too have to use the door opener that came with the garage. My 2021 GMC Denali Canyon pickup truck does not have a built in remote option for garage doors. I don’t believe the 2025 version has the option either. If I am mistaken please educate me.
On the sticker there was a $50 credit for the non functioning garage door opener. Does this still qualify for the reimbursement and reprogramming?
That’s what I am wondering also.
I took my car to the dealership today for a transmission issue and to get the update for the garage door opener! They said my vin number wasn’t in the update! I wonder if it’s because my trim is LT with add on packages that was supposed to have the garage door opener but didn’t and so I had the $50 credit on the window sticker!
What did they say about your trans issue.
I am having issues as well
Just picked mine up and they just couldn’t find anything after keeping for a week
Also having brake problems and rear end noises
Has engines first week!
Mine doesn’t work on 23 Yukon. It works on my 2001 Yukon just fine but not my new one and never has.
