GM sales increased 17 percent to 693,363 units during the first quarter of 2025 in the United States. Sales increased at all brands, including Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC.
“GM’s sales growth outpaced every other major automaker, and the driving force is our portfolio,” said GM Executive VP and President of Global Markets, Rory Harvey. “We’re the industry leader in trucks and affordable small SUVs, Cadillac is growing significantly in luxury, and we have the broadest portfolio of EVs in the industry,” he added.
GM Sales Notes – U.S. Q1 2025
Total GM sales during Q1 2025 increased 16.7 percent to 693,363 units
The consumer does not know that. In fact, GM would be smart to increase the prices of imported vehicles so they don’t sell out too fast. Buick seemed to do the opposite.
If they can build the Enclave here then why not build the other Buick’s here! It’s a matter of GM can but won’t they can still design the Encore and Envision in China and Korea but instead of importing them they will build them here in America…that’s what GM should have been doing all along I mean come on when a Toyota Corolla (a foreign brand) is built in the the USA and Buick isn’t something is wrong with this picture!
GM US is already tight on having enoughfactories. This is why Malibu is discontinued and soon Cadillac XT CUVs.
Buick Enore GX and Envista (also Trax and Trailblazer) are inexpensive/low margin cars so GM will, unfortunately, end production if S Korea tariffs remain. GM would need a new US factory rolled for VFF architecture which isn’t used for any other GM models
Envision is a hit in China so GM builds extra and sends them here. Envision might fit on Equinox assembly lines but, like Malibu and XT4,5,6 won’t be worth.
GM, if tariffs last, will end Buick in US. US capacity will be reserved by high margin trucks, large SUVs, And nothing cheaper than Equinox.
GM dominates compact crossovers wont have enough US factories to build them. Tariffs on Canadian plants only make the problem harder. GM 1) already gas debt 2) it takes years to get a new factory operational. Permits and environmental studies take at least one year.
GM is finally leading the industry but will now, along with Ford and Stellantis, be forced to shrink. Expect GM stock to really suffer
Looks like C8 Corvette bubble has burst as the model is getting “a little long in the tooth”. 2025 ZR1 will however bring gigantic profits for some dealers on “market adjustment” pricing. Funny how the few customers who get them can’t flip them for a year without penalties, while many dealers will add whatever they want about sticker. Supply & demand for dealers, but not for initial buyers.
No Doug Dimmadome that won’t work for Cadillac after the Cimeron and Catera I don’t know if I spelled those right) I think Cadillac learned that a Chevy is a Chevy and a Cadillac is a Cadillac with the exception of the Escalade of course which shares it’s bones with the Tahoe and Suburban…BUT the Escalade is the only badge engineered Cadillac that has EVER worked in modern times so if Cadillac does slap Cadillac badges on Chevy’s again is good bye Cadillac!
If these tariffs last, GM will need to downsize as a company focusing on high margin trucks and SUVs. Expect Cadillac and Buick to both either be retired or, like Chrysler/Dodge only sell a few high margin vehicles.
GM planned long-term based on Trump’s USMCA and 2018 S Korea trade deal. GM shares component costs with GM Shanghai.
Tariffs will hit the Detroit 3 harder than Honda and Toyota. GM offsets union labor costs using Mexico but Honda can afford to use more US content. I love Buick but don’t see it surviving
The brand went from 16.4% EVto 19.1% in a year, while simultaneously growing their ICE sales. Overall sales increased 17.8% with ICE sales increases 13.9% and electric sales 27.2%.
Next quarter will include the first full quarter of Optiq sales, with the Vistiq, Escalade IQL and Lyriq-V joining the party.
Sadly yes. Lower case gm is benefiting from MDS from the usual EV buyer who make up Tesla’s customer base. Noticed a lot of them have been trading in their Teslas for Blazer and Lyric EVs now getting into Equinox EVs.
Since the Equinox and Blazer EVs are simply better than the Model Y this is a smart move. The only place where the Model Y is better is the Tesla app vs. GM’s MyChevrolet (joke of an) app.
Percentage figures can be deceiving. If GM sells 1 vehicle last quarter then two this quarter, that’s a 100% increase. It’s the total number of PROFITABLE vehicles that is important. Since Tesla is the only American auto company that makes money selling EV’s, every EV GM sold was a financial burden. A gasoline powered Blazer out sells an EV Blazer 2 to 1 but yet they are killing off the ICE blazer. Smart. Briefly, looking at the actual units sold the EV Blazer, Hummer, Silverado and so on should canceled.
Good job to gm. Wasn’t expecting a double digit increase with this economy. But gm need to start reducing production of trucks to lower inventories. I predict a slowdown as the economy pivots back to manufacturing and production based.
Ok, sales increased, wonder why? People believed the fact that Dump was going to slap high tariffs on imported vehicles and parts, people bought them before the price increased by as much as 25%. Now since Dump has killed the Biden economy, sales will tank from April 2 until the tariffs are taken off. I was really thinking about getting a 2026 Equinox but now will be driving the old one for a few more years. I refuse to pay 25% more because of the orange King.
Maybe if Chevy built mine and a few 1,000 other Stingrays we’ve had on order since December and not shut the plant down every other week, the sales numbers would improve. 4 months to make a car is a bad business case. Management best take a look.
Too long, agree, but now that the orange King has slapped tariffs on parts, watch out, we haven’t seen nothing yet, it’s going to be like Covid shortages all over again, plus pay 25% more.

Congratulations to Buick for increasing sales by the highest percentage of GM’s brands, and for increasing sales of every Buick model.
It’s the tariffs, nearly every Buick nameplate is built either in Korea or China.
Really interested to see how Buick weathers this actually

Korea does not tarriff cars so we will not tariff cars from korea…
xzy89c you mean not yet I think Trump might be afraid of nuclear war with Korea if he imposed tarrifs on their country.

Glad to hear they’re bringing back the Riviera with 3.0l Twin-Turbo V6.

For Cadillac it looks like the Optiq cannibalized the Lyriq. Pretty much all the gains came from the Escalade and the introduction of the IQ version.
Shame, looks like Cadillac won’t be able to elevate the brand with high quality EVs. They probably have to go back to slapping crests on Chevys.

Cadillac is absolutely fine.
Cadillac won’t have the ICE sales next year with the entire XT line cancelled. Sales will be dismal in 2026.
Cadillac has not been fine since the 70’s. in quality and sales…
No sales of the Celestcalade??
WOW, where are those regular posts, every time, bashing GM leadership, Where?
I got tired of reading the daily insults.
EV sales increase somehow seems to align with another major EV only company who had a sales decline during same period.

Kind of makes you wonder how many of those sales will result in repossessions when the folks find out they can’t pay the high prices.

Congratulations GM. Outstanding job! Consider buying back the Lordstown, OH assembly plant and building vehicles there again.
Thank President Biden’s carry over economy. Our current great leader, the greatest leader of all time, is killing or killed the golden goose.
