GM Releases Fix For 2024 Chevy Silverado EV Rear Door Ajar Warning Malfunction

A new service update from General Motors describes a fix that is now available for a rear door latch ajar malfunction that affects certain units of the 2024 Chevy Silverado EV from the WT trim level.

According to GM Service Update number N242485400, affected units of the Chevy Silverado EV are eligible for a free repair of the problem through the end of their New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

The issue is a condition in which the rear door ajar warning doesn’t function properly in affected Chevy Silverado EV units. The problem affects both the right and left sides of the truck and is caused by a manufacturing defect in which the rear door wiring is incorrect.

In order to fix the problem, GM service technicians are first instructed to inspect any potentially affected 2024 Chevy Silverado EV pickups in inventory or that are brought to the dealership for any reason. If the problem is found, service personnel should replace the door wiring harness.

It is unclear at this time how many Chevy Silverado EV units are affected by the rear door ajar warning issue. As a reminder, the 2024 model year of the nameplate included the 3WT and 4WT trim levels – both affected – as well as the RST First Edition trim – unaffected by this issue or service update.

The Silverado EV has gotten a revised trim level lineup for the 2025 model year, including three variants of the WT trim level with different battery packs (2WT, 5WT and 8WT), the LT trim in the middle, and the range-topping RST trim. A further shakeup will follow with the 2026 Silverado EV, which will drop the RST trim and debut the Trail Boss variant.

Prices for the WT trim went down for the 2025 Chevy Silverado EV while range increased. The WT now starts at $57,095, $69,495 or $77,795 depending on its battery size and range. The RST trim features a starting MSRP of $89,395, placing it above the $80,000 threshold for federal tax incentive eligibility.

Meanwhile, GM Authority has recently uncovered pricing for the 2026 model year of the pickup. Prices have been cut for several trims, while at the top of the range, the LT Max Range will carry a price tag of $91,095 and the Trail Boss Max Range will start at $88,695.

Under the body panels, all model years of the Chevy Silverado EV are underpinned by the GM BT1 platform. Production of the EV truck is carried out at the GM Factory Zero plant in Detroit, Michigan.

  • Ugly dash, Gm forgot how to manufacture a vehicle. Competition with what company is the recall king. But they won’t call this one a recall like so many other defects. Sad Gm sad!
