Six months after permanently closing the GM OBB plant in the South American country, GM Ecuador is opening a new headquarters to continue the transformation in its new business role.
General Motors’ Ecuadorian subsidiary has just officially announced the opening of its new headquarters in Quito, located in a well-known building in the main commercial and financial center of the Ecuadorian capital. The new corporate facilities will house the offices of GM Ecuador executive and administrative staff, previously located within the GM OBB plant, which also served as the company’s main headquarters in the country.
“The transformation of General Motors in Ecuador is a testament to our adaptability and vision for the future,” said Country Manager of GM Ecuador, Oswaldo León. “With these new offices, we reaffirm our commitment to employees, creating a space designed specifically for them, where can develop and continue contributing to the company’s growth. GM remains stronger than ever with a clear strategy for 2025, focused on innovation, quality, and service excellence,” he added.
Notably, the new GM Ecuador headquarters was inaugurated on the site of the renowned “IBM Building” in Quito, which for decades served as the headquarters of the American technology giant that recently downsized its operations in that country. As such, the iconic building in the Ecuadorian capital now sports the blue GM logo at the top and an additional one on a concrete frame at the main entrance – right where the IBM logo once stood.
Although the company has only released a single low-resolution photograph and hasn’t revealed details about its move to this four-story building constructed in 1985, GM Ecuador claims its new offices are aligned with GM’s global standards and were designed by a professional team that worked for several months to adapt the facilities. In addition to the company’s visual identity, the adaptation guaranteed the functionality and well-being of employees.
New GM Ecuador headquarters begins a new chapter in the company’s history and continues the transformation in its new business role, now as a company focused exclusively on the sale of imported vehicles. In this sense, the new offices within a more modern and dynamic space, reaffirm the automaker’s commitment to the country. The official opening of the new headquarters was presided over by several regional GM leaders.
