GM Is Working On The Following Infotainment System Issues, So Please Be Patient

GM is working on a laundry list of issues with infotainment systems in recent models. They range from the screen going black to loss of audio to connectivity issues. The problems were widespread enough for GM to release dealer bulletin PIT6362 indicating that it’s currently working on resolving the issues.

GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate interior.

The affected GM vehicles with problematic infotainment systems are all from the 2024 and 2025 model years, spanning the Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac brands. They include all full-size trucks and SUVs (both gas and electric, except the Hummer EV), midsize trucks, and compact and midsize crossovers (including EVs). The affected infotainment systems are identified by RPO codes IVD and IVE.

Owners will need to be patient as GM comes out with Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) to fix all of these ongoing issues. Dealers are instructed not to replace the infotainment system itself in affected vehicles, as it will likely have the same problems until a solution comes down from GM.

The affected models are:

  1. Absolutely atrocious. Clearly, rushing out half-baked models.

    1. I don’t think so. App configuration is quite complex and there’s a variety of issues that arise from 3rd party apps as well. You would be surprised at how hard it is to build a good platform.

You wouldn’t be able to even participate in that so stop complaining. Expecting products to be perfect is a sign of being an idiot. So…

      1. JmA,
As one who has worked in IT infrastructure and performed feature and function integration testing for GM, I can tell you that there is not enough focus and respect for the customer. There is not enough effort put on delivering a quality, defect free product. This attitude was exasperated by the perspective that if it was not a safety issue, the product can be released. Additionally, when Over The Air (OTA) updates became possible, it was easier to say it will be fixed later. This was the pervasive attitudes for the issues identified before production. Many issues were not even identified until the customers found them.
The directive needed from executives is to deliver a defect free product. This can be accomplished by a complete systems view of features and functions, but more importantly, they need teams dedicated to features who are given ownership so they can take pride in what they create. These development teams need to work closely with the business side CONSTANTLY, pre and post production.

        1. The only way to ensure any quality directives are followed is to tie performance reviews to these directives. The UAW will scream bloody murder if GM does this.

      3. this is the MOST unintelligent and close minded response one could make. The customer is THE person paying for all this. GM corporate & marketing sells this crap packaged into vehicles that cost (in my case a AT4X Sierra) > $80K and then this happens?! There is no excuse you can come up with that justifies putting this crap on the market just to say look what the vehicle can do. And all you can come up with is how hard this is to accomplish? I hope you don’t work for Boeing.

All of my service is performed at our Cadillac dealership. I have owned GM vehicles all of my life and have been completely satisfied with every one of them!

    3. Make the stupid infotainment systems optional, I don’t need it or want it. Just give me an AM-FM radio. I have a phone that’s all I need. Unfortunately, another reason to keep my current Silverado until they fix this and the unreliable drive trains. GM is self destructing!

      Reply
      1. Simple radios where if you want to play music off your phone you either needed to get an FM transmitter or replace the head unit are gone and are never coming back. That’s because in 2018 the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or NHTSA required all new vehicles to come with a backup camera as standard equipment. They need a screen to show the video from the camera.

  2. Anyone remember when gauges just worked?

    1. Or didn’t… it used to be a wire in it and when it was failing, it used to be quite something to witness!

  3. This is why it should be illegal to use anything other than mechanical/analog gauges for critical driving information: speedometer, tachometer, temperature, pressure, fuel, etc., etc.

Every time I configure a Sliverado and look at the photos of the DIC, I’m always wanting the screen gone and the pre 2022.5 gauges back. Yes, I know, Custom trim, which I would do if you know, the Custom could be configured with heated seats/steering wheel, and other things for which there’s no good reason why the interior can’t have, for you know, a $50,000 vehicle. Far cheaper vehicles have this stuff.

  4. The screens still go blank? My 2017 Cruze did the same exact thing. They replaced modules, screens, basically anything behind the dash constantly. My car was in the shop so many times the first year over the radio screen being blank… literally months if you add it all up. The audio and the backup camera still worked, just not the actual radio interface. I started lemon law paperwork to file but a software fix finally appeared to resolve the issue. Well until about a year later when it started doing the same thing again. I was furious, I called my friend I was going to, canceled our plans and immediately went to a dealer and traded it in. (when third party buyouts were still a thing) and never looked back. A little unhinged on my part, but i wasn’t gonna spend another dime on a lease to have it sit in the shop for who knows how long and giving me the worst car on the lot as a rental again.

Insane how this is still a problem almost a decade later. Infotainment isn’t that hard for basically any other brand.

  6. That is an aweful lot of open issues. Did they not test at all or did they spend all the money on stock buy backs for the execs and huge raises for the factory workers?
Another example of a hardware company sucking at software.
And don’t forget that they didn’t deliver on the ability to not have a seperate dash camera yet to record video.

    1. Don’t confuse building a vehicle with designing and engineering a vehicle. These are NOT build quality issues. These are software issues. Integration engineers are supposed to sort this out. The ones they had were obviously asleep or just didn’t care. Maybe the General finally hired some that know what they are doing. Whatever the reason, there is NO excuse for this!

      1. I just left GM, there on a second stint – (huge mistake)- and I was one of the old timers. Here’s some inside into GM today….. There are two groups of employees, those 23-30 and then the 55-70 group. The first group heavily outnumbers the boomers group because GM has and is continuing to do everything they can to get rid of the older employees. Ask me how I know?? The kids are all college educated, extremely fluent in “spread sheet development” and, well, pretty much nothing else. The older employees are still the foundation because they have been through it all, know how stuff works, know how to deal with management and are the source of answers from all of the questions from the kids. On a daily basis you can literally watch those with the knowledge of what it takes to design and build cars, walk out the door.. So what’s left? Sadly, not too much. The kids today are heavily discouraged from showing interest in new ideas and advanced product designs and are indoctrinated into doing things exactly the same way GM has done them for the last 30-50 years. GM believes that the formula they’ve used before, “has to still work” and no one wants to be the one to deviate away from that antiquated formula.

        1. “…those 23-30 and then the 55-70 group”

This is just one of the current issues in corporate America.

The Boomers are just out of touch. The largest and richest gen in human history and the economy and prices bend to what THEY can afford, bc there are SO MANY of them. A lot of knowledge and many times also wisdom, but out of touch with what younger generations are going through and need/want/can afford. Some of it is the younger gens “Starbucks” attitude, yes, but the economy is now warped to what the Boomers can afford (bc of the sheer number of them) after a lifetime of building wealth. They are also just completely out of touch with the needs and wants of younger gens.

The kids right out of college have zero real life experience but a much higher degree of skill in newer tech (typically). This has made the Boomers in charge lean on the kids with zero life experience for certain things. One of the has been the “woke” trend. Boomers didn’t have a clue what it was at first and just went with it bc it must be the next big thing since all these college grad girls being hired are into it.

That’s just the out of touch folks in charge, not the ones in the WEF cult, which is a different topic.

          Reply

        3. This is a management issue, plain and simple. If Ross Perot were still alive, he could correct this. Too bad GM let him go, he would have changed the culture. Who knows, maybe they wouldn’t have gone bankrupt either.

    1. Hey Marty. I can tell you that the Bose upgraded system in the in the old 360 model Envoys had a really great item like you want. It actually monitored road noise and adjusted volume accordingly. You could roll the window down and the volume increased. Hit a gravel road and the volume increased. No adjustment necessary by the user. Worked the best of any I’ve seen. Not speed controlled volume, but just road noise. That was 25 years ago. Do better stuff has been available for decades.

This list is absolutely insane‼️ And I was soooo close to purchasing a 2024 Acadia Denali with only 7 miles on it, the dealership cut $11k off the price “because it was a 2024”.
On the test drive so much stuff didn’t work right, open door chime wouldn’t silence while driving and doors were closed.

The horrific engine noise reminded me of a Yugo! The 4 cylinder Turbo would be wound out and Loud. Like it was either going to blow or go. Driving up fairly mellow hills it wanted to shift to the next gear but when it did it would actually lose speed and shift back down, over and over.
I can only imagine it with 6 people inside or even attempting to pull a little trailer, jet ski or small water craft, especially with more than the driver in the vehicle!

Playing with the infotainment system had several of the issues from the list above. Video was glitching, steering wheel peeling at a couple of spots.
I walked away and haven’t looked back.
The ONLY way I would consider purchasing this new GM platform is with buying a 100k Extended Warranty.
I believe the used car market will be flooded with these things by next year. So we should be some really good bargains to be had after all of the returns and buybacks.

MY 2012 Buick Lacrosse (since sold) and 2016 GMC Sierra (still have) both had infotainment center problems. Eventually I just gave up in trying to get them fixed and just learned to live with the issues. There’s no way I would ever buy another GM vehicle after reading this article.

Having said that, i must have been living under a rock as i had no idea the infotainment was Google. As a result we havent provisioned either Goodle or On Star-want no part of GM or Google’s spying. Using a cellular ipad for Apple Maps and as a music server. Won’t keep this vehicle long as i wont have Google anything. This seems increasingly hard to avoid but i will find a way.

    Mazda can be added.
Volvo certainly can be added. Their screens are so bad and this happens often.
The VW ID4 I just leased does stuff like this a lot, especially with the CarPlay. Compared to the screen in my 2023 Bolt EV, the VW’s is garbage.

  50. This is what happens when you think it’s ok to have your customers do your beta testing.

  51. Holy Cow! That is alot of issues. I was going to add in my 22 Silverado High Country for all its bugs, but at least it still runs. Maybe I should count my blessings…..sheeesh! It may have been quicker to say was doesn’t need fixing.

  52. So glad I found this article. Just picked up our 2025 Buick Envision and I thought I was going crazy when I kept put my radio stations in and when I got in the next time some were changed and other stations were added.

  53. I have some of the same camera issues with my 2023 High Country. I wonder if they will include mine when they find out how to fix the issue.
