GM Introduces Chevy Trax Sport Jacket With Elbow Pads

Chevy is looking to blend streetwear with seat-wear with a new sport jacket designed specifically for Chevy Trax owners. The new garment aims to solve a long-standing issue with the affordable little crossover, namely the rock-hard door armrest, as covered in GM Authority’s interior review video. The new jacket offers a combination of style and practicality, and should provide enhanced comfort, at least in the short-term.

Per previous GM Authority coverage, the armrests in the Chevy Trax are made from hard plastic, which could be a major issue for some owners. However, rather than redesign the Chevy Trax interior with softer materials, GM’s strategy takes a foray into fashion. The result? The Chevy Trax Sport Jacket, featuring high-tech Evotex synthetic leather elbow pads positioned for optimal comfort when resting your arm on the door panel.

A Chevy Trax branded sport jacket.

Available exclusively with the optional Driver Comfort Package (RPO code AF1), which also includes carpeted floor mats, the jacket is available an LPO-level, dealer-fitted option. Essentially, customers who tick this option will schedule a meeting with their local dealership tailoring representative, who will physically put the jacket on the new owner before handing over the keys. Chevy says this guarantees “a seamless transition into maximum Trax comfort.”

The jacket is highly breathable and designed by a committee of well-paid focus groups. No word yet on what Trax owners should do in the summer months, but rumor has it GM may be prototyping a matching mesh vest with cooling gel elbow sleeves.

GM President Clark Joyce weighed in on the development:

“I gotta tell you, when the team showed me this jacket, I said to myself I just had to have one. So I bought a Trax. It’s a small price to pay to get this fantastic and exclusive garment, and the Trax is one of the most affordable new vehicles sold in the United States right now as well, so it’s win-win.”

Happy April Fools’ Day!

  1. AFD LOL. Good one.
But seriously, GM especially can’t afford more armrest padding especially now that CR has discovered that GMs Korean 4 all have AEB systems that become inop over 50mph, due to cost-cutting and gouging and like a Jack Russell Terrier, this $hitshow is just starting. As if the tariffs weren’t enough of a headache, now there’s this.

  2. Nice try. But your April Fools didn’t trick me.

    1. Funny enough, I was just thinking about how hard the armrest is in my 24 Trax RS. Would it have been so expensive to make it softer? It’s the biggest or perhaps only flaw in this otherwise excellent car… but the flaw is so big that I’m considering padding the armrest area myself.

  3. A real solution to any and MOST door arm rests is to purchase a computer keyboard pad and use double sticky tape. Or just throw it on the passenger seat and it becomes uncomfortable just grab it. 70s era GM’s were all padded all over the place. I miss those cush mobiles. Especially with the Brougham interior. I want a 1976 Cutlass Supreme Brougham.
