The Genesis X Gran Equator concept made its debut at this year’s New York International Auto Show, adding a rugged spin to the Genesis aesthetic. This overlander SUV, which Genesis calls an “adventure vehicle,” isn’t slated for production, but it’s a glimpse at a new direction for the Korean luxury brand.
“The X Gran Equator Concept is an exercise in harmonizing contrasts – combining elegance with ruggedness, and the spirit of exploration with refined comfort,” Genesis Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke said. “It represents the orchestration of true off-road competence and uncompromising luxury, designed to enable the discovery of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.”
The new concept resembles the Genesis Neolun concept from 2024, which many speculate is a preview of a production Genesis GV90 full-size electric SUV. It has a similarly dramatic light signature playing on the two-line theme omnipresent in Genesis designs. It has a long hood, a sloped roof, and an uncharacteristically long wheelbase for an off-roader. Tall ground clearance, round fog lights, and knobby tires complete the rugged look.
The interior of the Genesis X Gran Equator concept is an interesting take on the luxurious off-roader. It has four round gauges in the dash, prominent grab handles in front and back, and two-tone seats, which swivel in front. Even the roof is interesting, with roof rails integrated into the body and four individual sunroof panels.
The Genesis X Gran Equator won’t see production, but the Cadillac Lyriq, or arguably the GMC Hummer EV, is its closest GM analog. If the hood were shorter, it looks like this Genesis would be similar in size to the Lyriq, but it has the off-road ambitions of the bigger Hummer EV SUV. You can check out this “lifestyle-oriented” concept at the New York auto show, which opens to the public on April 18th.

this is a beautiful car, much more interesting of what GM does
BUT GUYS want to tell you something, wrote this email to the executives of GM Mark Reuss inclusive
Dear Sirs, I worked at GMB and for GM between 1995 and 1997. Yes, I only stayed for 3 years when I was supposed to work for 40. The main reason is that although I worked in Product Engineering, CAD Product Design, my main goal was to be a vehicle designer, something I never achieved professionally, but as a hobby, always at home. My registration number was 68938 and I have a profile on LinkedIn that would like to know more about my past history at more than 15 companies. But that’s not the case. The fact is that I always read GM Authority, a blog, and I see people complaining, and I myself complain about why GM, Cadillac and Saic Buick cars no longer have the beauty and grandeur expected. I also see on Facebook many Brazilians complaining about the lack of popular cars, such as the GMB Celta Blue Macaw, for which I studied the dashboard to fit the air box into the air control and radio surfaces. Therefore, I am re-proposing, based on the Onix, a colorful popular car that costs R$70,000 to the consumer. My second car was a 1995 GMB Chevolet Corsa Wind Aubergine and so I included that color. I guarantee that with AI you can easily get a matching rear end and a nice simple interior too. For 13 years my wife and I have had a 2013 Dacia Sandero Essentiel Blue and so this is the second new car, in our whole life we have only had 5 cars.
That level of ugly is equal to the cybertruck, maybe worse.
What’s with those lawn mower looking tires?
Thats probably one of the worse looking cars I’ve ever seen. My eyeballs hurt.
On the eyeball pain:
Yours aren’t the only ones.
Note to design team:
If you are designing a vehicle you intend to badge as “Equator”: the equator circumscribes the entire earth. Not just snippets, like your dual, belt line stripes which are unconnected front, rear and sides.
The whole thing looks like a perfect example of idiots trying to re-write established scientific facts.
Just more competition at the junk yard for the CyberYuck.
Looks like a hippo designed it.
It’s beautiful. Just needs a shorter hood.
Is this forum all boomers? People here are sooo conservative. That’s why we have cars that have looked the same for the last 20 years. I actually like this concept, except showing concepts you don’t intend on manufacturing (looking at you – Ram Revolution!) should be prohibited ;P
Never trust a vehicle that is not smiling at you
Wow, that’s the ugliest thing I’ve seen in a while!
Looks like a SHOE BOX!!!!!!!!!!
A hippo car! My little grandkids would love a goofy looking toy car like that.
