With a new 25-percent tariff on automobiles imported to the U.S. in effect, many industry analysts predict cars will become more expensive across the board. One way that GM rivals Ford and Stellantis are giving potential buyers some much-needed peace of mind is by offering employee pricing for everyone. However, GM hasn’t announced such a program.
Ford launched its “From America, For America” incentive program on Thursday, which gives everyone access to its A Plan pricing on almost every model. Ford wants to promote its position as the largest U.S. vehicle producer at a time when shoppers are specifically looking for cars assembled in the States. On Friday, Stellantis launched a similar pricing program. Ford’s program runs through June 2nd, and Stellantis employee pricing is in effect through the end of April.
“This week we launched aggressive and consistent incentive and marketing support for April, including an exciting and competitive enhancement that will allow our customers ‘America’s Freedom of Choice’ between employee price or current cash incentives,” a Stellantis spokesperson said in a statement.
Automotive News estimates that about 60 percent of the vehicles Stellantis sells in the United States are built domestically, and that number is about 80 percent for Ford. However, like GM, both are dependent on international manufacturing for components and assembled vehicles.
“There’s a lot of uncertainty right now,” Rob Kaffl, Ford’s director of U.S. sales, told Automotive News. “What we think this program provides is more certainty to an uncertain situation and stability, frankly, and support to those U.S. consumers. It’s a way to give back to the communities that have supported us for generations.”
Automotive News contacted GM to ask if it would offer a similar incentive program, and a spokesperson confirmed that there are no planned changes to its existing incentives already in place for April.
Comments
For a lot of GM models, sales are up from prior years. For example, GM truck and SUV volumes have grown the last 3 years. Supply and demand show that GM doesn’t need to offer employee pricing to normal customers.
What was the first quarter is not what today looks like. I don’t disagree but don’t let March’s craziness with folks rushing to buy now or never, be your guide.
I was just going to say. Does GM need it? It seems these days GM is the strongest selling of the Detroit 3. Stellantis is unsurprising but Hackett and Farley are not doing Ford any favors these days.
For fun only, I checked dealer prices of Ford Escapes this weekend and dealer asking prices are $4K higher than a month ago (and inventory is not tariff-affected), so this is a sham. And it’s optional. Dealers don’t have to go along with it. It’s nonsense.
Usually when Ford offers this, it only applies to the lot rot queens that had a birthday. Not something someone actually wants to buy. A one ton van with a 6 cylinder, something with no A/C, base model, stick shift, 2 wheel drive suv, etc.
Manufacturers have raised prices over 35% since this covid nonsense. People also have gone absolutely crazy/ignorant with buying vehicles totally out of their price range. The auto industry is holding onto a thread especially with long term loans at an all time high. Personally, I hope it all goes under, because society can’t survive with $80k+ trucks/suvs when the average household makes under $70k. It’s just simple facts and logic.
I agree 100%. But, because “he” changes his mind hourly, tariffs might not stick. And prices will stay the same as if they were still in effect. And I hope a few biggies file for the big B.
It would not be anything new for Dump, since he has filed for the “big B” at least 6 times, including 2 casinos, that has to be a record, who bankrupts casinos? My concern is it will not be the United States, or me for that matter. Dump is leading this country into a recession, while he plays golf. Reminds me of Nero fiddled while Rome burned.
Those bankruptcies were all back when Trump was a Democrat.
Does pretending to be Republican make him any less of an idiot?
Who cares Trump is a chump.
Another psycho obsessed with Trump.
Go see a shrink.
Yeap
thought this was about cars
Nj bankrupted the casinos . When built nj promised 24 hour gambling and liquor sales and an expansion to Atlantic City airport to make it the la Vegas of the east coast . Nj dragged it feet and interest rates went through the roof . Based on the promises he got when he built the casinos , they would have been goldmines .
Stop posting BS. A simple 2 second google search proves your income data wrong:
“In 2023, the median household income in the United States was $80,610, a 4.0% increase from the 2022 estimate of $77,540.”
The only possible way to significantly reduce auto prices in the US would be to stop making autos in the US and make them all in Mexico, South Korea, China and other countries that have lower labor, healthcare and regulatory costs.
Just because you are broke, doesn’t mean the rest of us are.
Mary needs new shoes.
To add to her collection of 40,000.
New CORVETTE MSRP 2020 $59995.00. New CORVETTE MSRP 2025 $69995.00 that is less than 17% increase across 5 model years. So TNTSIERRA what kind of math are you using. I can tell you what nonsense is, it’s moronic tariffs and an 11 trillion dollar devaluation of the stock market since # 47 was elected! YES 11 TRILLION!
@Don
You don’t understand tariffs anymore than any other person crying about them. Just be patient and let him do his job. We’re you complaining this bad the past 4 years when the dementia patient was in office ruink g our country???
Yes, because runaway tariffs worked so well all the other times some idiot in the Whitehouse tried it.
Do his job??? The Freak said he would lower grocery prices.. LIE. The Freak said he would end the Ukraine war in 24 hours.. LIE. The Freak said he would lower gas prices. Yea for about 1 week now they are back up.
As David willfully ignores the child-sniffing putz who brought on high grocery prices, 40-year-high inflation, and bankrolling a war in Ukraine (while pissing off a nuclear power). I seem to recall Democrats being VERY anti-war just a few short years back.
But, I know….Dump, tRump, and Hitler…..or something.
C’mon David, be smarter, and be less emotional.
@ Don.
A quick Google search to help you out shows that car prices since 2019 have increased 34% oops I was off by 1% I was listening to the CEO of the union auto workers on Saturday and he stated 35%
Good day!
Hey TNTSIERRA auto loans are not at an all time high! During the Reagan years auto loans were 17% and mortgages were 13%. Today auto loans are at 5%.
@Don
Yes they are. The long term 72 and 84 month loans are at an all time high! Look up on this website. They just had it posted friday or datirday that 84 month term loans are.
As for interest rates. Cars, and houses were not as expensive as they are now, plus the extra costs of living has skyrocketed compared to the 80s. It’s simple research amd your theory is prove Wrong.
To TNTsierra, It seems that history repeat itself. Néron, chief of the Roman empire, was playing the violin while Rome was burning to the ground. TTT(tariffs, trumpy, trump) was playing golf while the world stock market in going down the drain and citizens, IN EVERY 50 STATES NOT 51 were marching the streets in protest of the tariffs impose the the every country of the world even A PENGUINS ISLAND. What a smoke show with his charts. A chance, the RIDICULE DON’ST KILL BECAUSE HE WOULD HAVE TRESPASSED ZILLIONS OF TIME SINCE 2016. And by the way TTT in not far for TNT(dynamite). Don’t you realise that the ENTIRE world will try to make the US suffer until people (republicans) say enough is enough and kick him out.
@Canadian
Why is ok for the entire world to LEACH off of the United States? Trump and the rest of his administration is trying even the playing field. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Unless you are the one leaching off the government?? I for one am a hard working U.S tax paying citizen and I am sick of waste, and MY money being used poorly. I don’t see tax returns during tax season. I only see more of MY money being wastefully spent.
I think that you have overindulged in the trump Koolaid.
It’s time to for a breath of fresh air.
Nobody is leaching off your ass backwards excuse for a country.
Why is it ok for Trump to LEACH off the United States? The fool flies to sh!thole Florida EVERY WEEKEND on Air Force Once at the cost of $ 3 million. But when Biden went to Delaware 100 miles from the White House the Republicans cried like babies.
Problem was Biden did not come back to the White House from Delaware on Monday to work.
No one is LEACHING off American, if Americans don’t want to buy products from other countries , that’s fine, don’t, no one is forcing you to.
The world is a much smaller place today than it was 50-60 years ago, times change, stop being so arrogant and get with the program.
I am 72 years old and lived through the housing and financial markets during the 80’s. My memory is quite clear. There are many things I did not agree with during the Biden presidency. My retirement portfolio however was quite stable and profitable over the past 4 years. I do not want our country to be ripped off by anyone including the current president who bragged on national television how he pays no taxes! How do we prosper by that kind of mentality? For the record I have never leached off anyone. I was a hard working tax paying TEAMSTER for 33 years. One more thing what about corporate welfare? Republicans historically are good at dangling a shiny object in one hand as a distraction and picking your pocket with the other.
Love your comment . Wife of a 40 year GM employee
What about corporate welfare? Democrats are all about raising taxes on corporations and tariffs are just another form of business tax. So I would think you would be all good with them, right?
Republican are all about giving their rich friends tax cuts.
Fyi that’s a lefty talking point. Not an actual fact
TNTSIERRA I am not talking theoretically, inflation was obscene in the 80’s, it peaked at 14%. 72 & 84 month auto loans were non-existent during the 80’s. I checked with my credit union yesterday car loans are @ 5.14% for a 72 month term.
Gotta love the armchair politicians..
Fake news at its finest.
TNT bought a new SUV in 2017, was at the dealership for service last week. Same exact SUV was 10% higher. Real life experience is better than as your buddy would say fake news. GOOGLE all you want get out and live it first hand.
Money for nothing, cute oxymoron. Tariffs have historically been failures. Not in agreement with the new escalatory tariffs. The last time we balanced the budget in the 90’s the corporate tax rate was 35%. Fast forward today they are 21% from the most recent cut in 2017. That saved corporations 800 billion dollars they used to buy back stocks which was paid for by tax payers thru DEFICIT SPENDING. Now corporations want further cuts which will not be revenue neutral increasing the deficit.
So TNT we do not understand tariffs but you do? Also now your a doctor because you characterize covid as nonsense. It is nonsense because you went to trump university where they teach shining bright lights and ingesting bleach or taking Ivermectin which has been documented to cause severe neurological events as a remedy.
@ Don
Covid was nonsense. It was a complete joke that was created by democrats and Fauci in a lab in China. It has been debunked and proven that many of the deaths were falsely identified becuase hospitals made millions on stating it was a covid death. I have tons of faimly if medical field that can back it up. It was also a way to tear down Trumps wonderful economy, make him look bad, and then poor millions of dollars into politicians pockets. Do alittle research my friend and stop watching the lying news networks of CNN/MSNBC/60 minutes and anything else run by Soros enterprises. Wake up, see the light before, you die of a stroke from TDS.
@Don
I certainly know more than you and am waiting patiently and will be on here, waiting for each one of you “TDS” clowns to admit you were wrong…..oh wait, non of you are MAN enough to do that….heck you can’t even explain to us conservatives what a woman is……..move along.
Losing with mediocrity strikes again.
TNT do you know what spell check is? Because you cannot spell better than a 3rd grader.
At age 72, I hold my nose and vote for the least smelly candidates. I try to avoid conversations about religion and politics and most importantly, I do not waste my time getting involved in pissing contests on websites. Peace and love.
I agree, but sometimes it is fun. I’m fully aware that no amount of evidence will ever pursuade an idiot. Having an argument with an intelligent person is difficult. Having one with a stupid one is impossible. Life is hard. It is even harder if you are stupid!
@Don
Ya, sometimes I don’t always spell check my phone. I admit, I get in a hurry and don’t look over it, but hey, I make mistakes. I am a MAN and can admit it!!
I do know trying to talk to insecure, weak men like you, about common sense is really tough! You sir have some serious flaws, but hey, when this all works out and Trump is right, like he was about all of these:
Russiagate—you democrats
Hunter Labtop—you democrats
Covid origins—you democrats
Men in women sports—you democrats
Hiding dementia Joe—-you democrats
Inflation at all time high—you democrats
Afghanistan withdrawal debacle—you democrats
Boy I could go on, but this list is the tip of iceberg, on the amount of “ignorance” your party and YOU are affiliated with…..
I don’t even have to meet you to see what kind of “person” you are…didn’t want to offend you! Should I use proper pronouns instead?? Pathetic!!! Have a great day though, don’t have a stroke with Trump living rent free in your head!
to TNT(dynamite)Sierra. Your are probably leaving in a desert. Also, I bet you were born, painted in RED with a MAGA tattoo on your front head and or a RED baseball hat. To respond to your 7 comments on democrats which did not turned all the countries of the world against US citizens(poor democrats there not lucky and brainwashed republicains which also will get hit in their bank account by 1-25-34% on tariffs. Here are my 7 comments 1-Penguins Island tariffs(who’s the penguin). 2-Get rid of covid 19 by drinking javel 3-Covid 19 was only a common cold(200,000 US citizens died). 4-Next one will be bird flu is also a common cold for hens witch are eliminated and your dozen of eggs is already costing you 10.00 to 15.00 a dozen. 5-Measles vaccin . recommend(forbid) to your grandchildren not to take it and they might not live enough to see you die(would you gamble on this, already 2 child died in Texas 6- Fluoride. watch your next bill at the dentist 7- Tonight at midnight your bananas will cost you 10% more and this is just the beginning of what you will have to pay more next time to go the your grocery store. April 2nd and or 3rd was LIBERATION DAY BUT I hope that I will see DELIVRANCE DAY and also in the near future a probable JANUARY 6th in front of the White House when tainted republicans like you see the light at the end of your blinded tunnel.
GM needs to have better quality control.. my 2024 Colorado paint job was terrible.. over 10 pits n blimishes, plus lots of other issues. Waiting for buyback deal, hopefully prices don’t get out of control with tariffs coming. I HAVE A LEMON COLORADO.
You have a General Mediocrity junkmobile
TNT when little boys like you are loosing they resort to derogatory, condescending comments in an attempt no matter how futile to regain control of the narrative, much like the failed wife cheating, narcissistic, sociopath, convicted felon in the white house.
@Don
Truths and facts hurt! Libs and YOU can’t stand them. Hopefully you go see a doctor. Good day
Stopped in the local dealership to order a new Z06. To get the front end lift I had to move up from a base model 1LZ to 2LZ for $8900 more, than the lift was a $2595 option. Total $11,495 more for the lift. I walked out. Not me….LOL
Mary has to keep her inflated salary
