Elvis Presley’s Cadillac Guitar Car Is Up For Sale In France

Elvis Presley and Cadillac are two names synonymous with America. Now, collectors of memorabilia related to Elvis, GM, or both have an opportunity to get their hands on an unusual custom Cadillac owned by The King himself, but this uniquely American creation is located in Orléans, France.

The hot rod you see here is based on a 1970 Cadillac Eldorado. It’s been heavily modified by Jay Ohrberg with a fabricated fiberglass body to resemble an electric guitar. It measures an astonishing 41 feet long and originally had strings along the fretboard and tuners sticking out of the hood.

Power comes from an 8.2L V8, which sounds to us like the original engine. A 500ci V8 with a Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor was the sole engine option in the 1970 Cadillac Eldorado, rated at 400 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. Assuming it has the original transmission, it’s a 3-speed automatic.

The sheer unwieldiness of this custom car means it probably wasn’t driven very often. However, we know Elvis drove it on at least one occasion. This ride is how he chose to arrive at the Las Vegas International Hotel. That’s right; this was a street-legal car, and Elvis actually drove it.

The “Guitar Car” is up for auction on eBay with a starting bid equivalent to $10,810.50 USD. As of this writing, there are no bids on the car, and the seller is open to offers. With such a modest starting bid, it’s possible that shipping the thing to North America might cost more than the car itself.

The listing describes the car as a “non-rolling vehicle,” so we’re guessing it doesn’t start. This would be a pretty massive restoration project for a dedicated Elvis fan, but we’d love to see it restored to street-legal, roadworthy status.
