The ICE-based Chevy Silverado is one of GM’s most popular models, with retail customers offered the light-duty Silverado 1500 and the heavy-duty Silverado HD. While the difference in capability between these two pickups is very well-established, some folks may be left wondering what the differences are inside the cabin. Now, we’re taking a closer look at the interior dimensions for both the Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD in the following comparison.
Putting the two spec sheets side-by-side, we find that the interior dimensions are nearly identical between the the Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD. The only dimensions where there’s any difference at all is in the shoulder room for Regular Cab models (66.02 inches in the Silverado 1500 and 66.06 inches in the Silverado HD) and the second-row shoulder room for Crew Cab models (65.16 inches in the Silverado 1500 and 65.30 inches in the Silverado HD). Every other interior dimension is exactly the same across all body configurations between both models.

This revelation could come as something of a surprise given the exterior dimensions for the Chevy Silverado 1500 are significantly smaller than those for the Silverado HD, with the light-duty Silverado measuring in shorter, narrower, and lower than its heavy-duty equivalent. Notably, the Silverado HD also has bigger windows due to a difference in the doors and belt line, with the belt line in the HD roughly 25 mm (0.8 inches) lower compared to the light-duty 1500, thus necessitating taller windows in order to achieve better outward visibility, as we exclusively covered previously.
In terms of styling, Silverado HD customers generally want something unique, rather than just a “bigger Silverado 1500.” To that end, Chevrolet made sure to visually differentiate the two models with specific styling differences, including a new fascia, grille, headlamps, hood, and other components. In fact, nearly every section of sheet metal on the Silverado HD is different from the Silverado 1500, save for the roof.
Nevertheless, step into the interior, and things become much more familiar between the two.
