Chevy Camaro Convertible Circles Street Takeover, Loses Wheel To Curb: Video

A new viral video has hit social media showing a sixth-generation Chevy Camaro convertible losing its rear wheel during a chaotic street takeover in Southern California.

The incident appears as though it took place at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Denker Avenue in Los Angeles, and was captured by a bystander standing on an adjacent sidewalk.

A Chevy Camaro at a street takeover in LA.

The video opens with a crowd blocking a four-way intersection, a typical setup for a street takeover. For readers who may be unaware, a street takeover is an illegal automotive event where participants block-off a public road to perform stunts and other reckless activities. Although these gatherings typically occur under the cover of darkness, this particular instance took place in broad daylight.

In the footage, we see the Chevy Camaro convertible with its top down making wide arcs through the intersection, its rear tires spinning as the driver pins the throttle. Inside the car, we see a trio of individuals showing off for the crowd. The scene includes a nearby uncapped fire hydrant, which is spraying water into the intersection and soaking the Camaro’s occupants.

As the drop-top navigates a particularly wide turn, we see the Camaro’s driver’s side rear wheel clip a curb. The car rolls forward towards the camera, giving us a clear view of the damaged wheel as the center of the wheel spins, leaving the outer rim stationary. It also appears as though the suspension was damaged in the collision. Either way, it’s clear that the poor abused car has been immobilized.

The occupants casually exit the vehicle, visibly unharmed. One of the individuals even delivers a small, frustrated kick to the damaged rear fender, as if the Camaro was at fault for the reckless accident.

Unfortunately, it’s a scene that’s surprisingly common these days, in particular with the Chevy Camaro.

  1. They didn’t care because the car was stolen…

Camaro’s can be stolen in under 30 seconds due to horrible on board BCM security. They’ll steal another one and do it again

    1. There is no evidence before me to indicate that this vehicle was stolen. No facts to suggest that were presented in the piece where I could make that finding.

      1. Are you just going to walk away from YOUR car or would you call for a tow? Come on! Is your remark for real?

        1. We can only go on the facts presented in the story. Ever been in a car accident? My first instinct is to get away from there because you think the car is going to explode. Maybe they did call the AAA. We don’t know.

          1. A broken wheel – possibly a flat tire too is going to make the car explode!!!
Are you for real or just lacking common sense?

          2. Yes, I’m sure the masked, shirtless hoodlums participating in an illegal street takeover got out of the car and called AAA. Get real.

    1. No different than kids with slick back hair in the 50s racing gassers. If this was a parking lot, this would be called “doing donuts.” I did this with my dad’s ‘77 Caprice a couple of times in a snow covered lot. Fun stuff. It was a hoot.

      1. I did the same. BIG difference though – we didn’t break the law by blocking public streets, endangering the public, and we used our own cars – NOT ones we stole then trashed!

        1. What evidence from the story do you have that this car was stolen? Educate me. Point to one line or word there.

          1. Gee – walking away from a broken wheel. More like let’s disappear before the police arrive on the scene. Would you just walk away from your car and leave it (assuming that you didn’t steal the car) or would you call for assistance to replace your wheel or have it towed to a shop? I can’t believe the ignorant comments. Haven’t you watched REAL news that shows these street takeovers with stolen cars? Would you abuse YOUR car like that and break the law by organizing and blocking a public roadway?

  3. Put them all in jail, spin them around until they break.

People have lost total respect for other people’s property/possessions.

People’s culture needs to change as well. I would have never ever thought of taking something ever, because my FATHER literally would have made my life miserable. I feared, yet respected him so much. I am so thankful I was raised right.

    1. For a traffic offense? For hooning? These kids were engaging in nothing violent. In fact nothing different than kids in the 50s with slick back hair racing gassers. There is noting to suggest either from the facts nor story that this vehicle was stolen.

      1. They stole a car then wrecked it. Bleeding geart libs like you are why they aren’t scared to keep committing crimes.

      1. My post was by mistake. These people were breaking the law, endangering the public and illegally blocking public streets. They ALL should be ticketed and the car THIEVES should be arrested !

        1. What evidence do you have that these were thieves? Point to anything in the story that suggests that? I wouldn’t want you as a Judge nor Jury if you can leap from hooning to thievery.

    1. Liked like all kids to me. What do you mean by the comment “these types of people?” So another human being is a “garbage dump” for having some fun with a car? Cars are American culture. These kids should be welcomed and respected. These kids are no different than James Dean. The only thing that happened is a busted suspension and wounded pride.

      1. Stealing cars and blocking public thoroughfare? Welcomed and respected??? What are you on? Or did you forget to take your meds? That’s what’s wrong with the world today ‘ people like you who don’t know right from wrong ! 🤪

      2. Oh, BTW – James Dean’s car belonged to HIM —- it wasn’t STOLEN!

        1. Point out any line in the story or word that says the car was stolen. None. You have the right to your opinion, but not the facts.

    1. Then brought back on a tax payers dime because of an administrative error. The problem is if they can round one guy up and “disappear them,” why can’t they do that to a citizen. They can claim my birth certificate is invalid and say “tell it to a judge” and meanwhile, I’m locked up.

  7. Not one commenter here pointed to any language that suggests that this Camaro was stolen. All speculation. That’s ok. I believe this car was near the Grassy Knoll that day in Dallas. It’s fun to speculate.
