Chevy Blazer EV SS Is Quickest SS-Badged Chevy Ever

GM is taking a well-deserved victory lap celebrating the launch of the Chevy Blazer EV SS, boasting that it’s the quickest-accelerating SS-badged Chevy of all time. Specifically, it sprints from a standstill to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds. For what it’s worth, this crossover is also the most fuel-efficient Chevy SS model ever.

This stunning acceleration comes from a pair of electric motors that produce 615 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful EV in its competitive class. Its quickest acceleration comes on when the midsize crossover is in Wide Open Watts (WOW) mode.

“Chevy is the fastest-growing EV brand in the U.S., and with the debut of the Blazer EV SS – Chevy’s first performance EV – we’re further expanding our industry-leading customer choice in electric vehicles,” Chevy said in a recent release.

In the same press release, GM takes a trip down memory lane with a thorough history of the SS moniker. As many of our readers probably know, it all started with the 1961 Chevy Impala SS, which was available with a 348ci or 409ci V8 engine linked to either a 4-speed manual or 2-speed automatic transmission. Other performance upgrades included heavy-duty springs and shocks and power brakes. The SS variants of the Chevelle and Camaro came out in 1964 and 1967, respectively, cementing the SS name as synonymous with American muscle.

Walking through the history of the SS name, which included a dry spell from 1976 to 1982, the return of the high-performance pickup truck, SS-branded SUVs, and a standalone Chevy SS model goes to show how much Chevy SS models have evolved over the years. Naturally, the 2025 Chevy Blazer EV SS is the first electric vehicle to wear SS badges, and its rip-roaring performance doesn’t disappoint.

In classic SS fashion, the Chevy Blazer EV SS is a hopped-up version of an otherwise mainstream and practical vehicle. It’s not a track car, per se, but it’s a sporty and somewhat affordable vehicle that owners can actually drive every day.

  3. G.M. just doesn’t get it. People aren’t asking for an SS Chevy Blazer. Most don’t want or need a 615 h.p. everyday SUV. What most people are asking for is a SS Chevy Camaro in couple and convertible body style. We all wish for a V8 but understand that might not happen. G.M. listen to you customers!

          Cars especially 2 doors are not popular in this age.

      2. It wasn’t because of desirability. Fact is more today are buying pickups and SUVs, that’s why sales of Gen 6 Camaros were what they were. I lived through the first muscle car era of the 60s and 70s.Back then, there weren’t any SUVs and driving a pickup wasn’t cool-especially since they were mostly 2 -wheel drive, long bed, and spartan.

    That’s the problem- people don’t want an expanded EV choices. They want performance ICE vehicle choices. Willfully ignoring their customers.

  6. Might be the fastest, but it will not sell well, because this EV push was done the wrong way! People don’t want to be forced to buy an EV.

    GM stating we are going fully electric by “this year” was a negative statement to ICE owners, and then cutting the Camaro and “rumors” circulating they going EV with that is a disgrace!

    Also, the price tags on all of GM’s EVs is a joke. They are hanging themselves out to dry to try and sell $80k, to $100K vehicles.

    I will say that this Blazer SS is very sharp looking, I just wish it would be priced in the lower $50k, instead its going to be in the upper $60k

    Also they should offer the 3.6L twin turbo from Cadillac along side of it for ICE customers, and I bet we all know which one would sell better….ice, ice, baby

  8. Obviously, these NASCAR drivers who are Chevy sponsored had to act all bubbly. But when AND if NASCAR goes electric in the future…. well let’s just say the tracks will become overgrown with weeds and trees. NASCAR is about rumbling, thundering and roaring V8s. Visceral vibes hammering your chest from V8 explosions If you’ve never been to a track, experience it. I’ve been to Dover and Pocono multiple times, and the experience is like no other. Imagine an ICE-less NASCAR- never; it’ll die first. Who in their right mind can get excited about whooshing Electroluxes ??

  10. And how much does this pig weigh? Just about 6000 pounds with a minimal load. So, it has uninspiring range, and will probably eat tires like crazy. They’ll be lucky to sell 1000 of them. These things will make the Holden SS models look like big sellers.

If you’ve ever been to a large mining operation you would have noticed that the heavy equipment used to “strip the surface of the Earth” belch out so much exhaust you’d wonder how mining “Rare Earth Minerals” is eco-friendly. Now go to the processing facilities and you will see the same, or worse, level of “pollution”. All in the guise of saving the planet. I’m in no way convinced that EV’s, especially their production, are better for the planet than ICE vehicles. With regards to the demand for these type of SUV’s and Camaros, I believe it comes down to 2 significant factors. Cost and Gadgets. Get rid of all the gadgets in order to lower the cost and just about any vehicle, properly styled, will sell well, 2 or 4 doors. No. I would never buy a 4 door Camaro, ever.

  13. The real SS cars of yesteryear might be slower, but they looked way cooler, and that Vroom from the big V8s made us way happy. No sound, no soul. Something a cop told a few days ago; he said people cannot keep their heavy feet off the pedal with EVs and keep getting tickets.

  14. The 64 Malibu SS convertible, 1972 Chevelle SS350, 1970 Chevelle SS396, and 1984 Monte Carlo SS I once owned would say this a SUV, a very distant cousin that they don’t want to claim. LOL.
