Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Chevy Colorado sales in Q1 2025 enabled the Bow Tie brand’s midsize pickup truck to maintain second place in its segment when ranked by sales volume.
The Toyota Tacoma was far ahead of the pack, having led the space for more than a decade as sales rocketed 176 percent year-over-year to 59,825 units. The Colorado (see running Chevy Colorado sales) remained in second place with a 73 percent jump to 25,856 units, while the Ford Ranger (see running Ford Ranger sales) took third with 14,913 deliveries, and the Nissan Frontier earned fourth with a 27 percent drop to 14,481 units. The Gladiator moved up from last place in spite of a seven percent dip to 12,057 units, trading places with the GMC Canyon (see running GMC Canyon sales), the Colorado’s corporate cousin, which placed last with a 66 percent upswing for 9,096 deliveries.
It’s worth noting that the sales performance of the Tacoma and Ranger reflect a recovery from a generational changeover over the past year.

The midsize mainstream pickup segment expanded 78 percent to 136,228 units during Q1 2025, meaning that Colorado sales were in line with the segment average.

The GM Authority Take
While Chevy Colorado sales were off to a strong start in 2025, the truck substantially lagged the segment leader. Even combining Colorado sales with those of the Canyon could not put GM in reach of the best-selling Toyota Tacoma.
The good news is that the Coloardo outpaced all other rivals, including the all-new Ranger by 11K units and the recently-overhauled Nissan Frontier.
The General remains the second best-selling purveyor of midsize trucks in the U.S., accounting for roughly a quarter of all sales in this space, putting it ahead of the next best-seller (Ford) by 20K deliveries.
About Chevrolet Colorado
The 2025 Chevy Colorado has finally arrived, sporting a variety of important updates for the midsize pickup truck, debuting three new paint options while dropping the base turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R engine. Now, all 2025 Colorado units are exclusively equipped with the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B engine, which produces 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.
Notably, 2025 Colorado ZR2 gets a new TurboMax hood badge as part of a rebranding effort seen across several GM models, receives more standard features, and goes leather only, ditching the cloth and Evotex seats.
The 2025 Colorado Z71 gets more standard features as does the 2025 Colorado Trail Boss which also gets more standard features.
At the low end, the 2025 Colorado LT actually becomes an option package on the entry-level Work Truck (WT) trim level, which also gains a new WT Custom Package to enhance aesthetics and styling.
The fastest-turning trim level for the third-generation Colorado is the range-topping ZR2. Here are five changes and improvements we’d like to see for the Bow Tie brand’s midsize pickup truck.
In spite of all that this next-generation truck brings to the table, here are five changes and improvements we’d like to see for the Bow Tie brand’s midsize pickup in the next update.

Put a v6 option in these trucks, and you’ll overtake toyota in a quarter
That will only happen once Ms Mary is fired.
Even though they are not perfect, Mr Mark Reuss and Mr Duncan Aldred know what people want better than she does….
The 2.7L is more than capable since it’s been in the Silverado. It has way more power too.
I won’t sell my 2018 because I like the V6. If you add a V6 as an option I will be very interested.
Put in a V6 and offer a larger bed and sales will really take off
So you want a car based, torque less engine back? So many clueless commentators here. GM but in a dedicated, truck designed engine with oodles of torque and plenty of HP on 87, it is in every way, shape and form better than the old car based V6; but somehow the clueless liberal thinking posters think a V6 would change the world. News flash, it wouldn’t budge the needle. As much as I love the longbed (we currently have that on our crew cab Canyon), sales weren’t enough. You rarely see one around, it wouldn’t move the needle in sales either. This current truck is on track to have the second best sales year ever, but the uneducated complainers think a useless feature of a torqueless V6 is the way to go. Put that motor in against the competition and it would be floundering in comparison tests. Lets not take a step back, GM listened and delivered to the majority and are being rewarded for it.
Yep, the sales increase for the Tacoma happened AFTER the V6 was discontinued. The sales numbers collectively is representative of the success or failure of a car or truck model, not the opinions of online keyboarders.
I am not paying 60k+ for a TRD Pro.
Anybody ever say TRD? It’s a simple English word, just misspelled. As a full time auto tech, we have lost of Toyota jokes, Toyota is just a hype that I can’t get on. I’ve never owned anything other than GM, I’ve driven almost everything, but I’d take an old ranger or s10 over Tacoma or tundra. As a matter of fact I own an old GMC 1500, not a bad truck for 280,000 miles and 25 years. They don’t make trucks like that anymore, some better and some worse but the thing’s just about as old as I am. And not so much worse off haha.
Put back the power passenger seat and physical head/fog light controls. Also, still not sold on 2.7 over the 3.6. The 3.6 in my 2019 gets a little over 20 MPG city, thought to be fare, has never achieved better that low 22.x on the highway.
In Chile and Colombia is the Brasilian Colotado ( or S10).
Bring back the 3.6L retuned for 335 hp like camaro has with a TQ increase as well and also offer a specially edition “syclone” street truck with twin turbo 3.6L and watch it fly off the dealership lots. There really nothing in this category except for the new Ford maverick lobo edition.
That would be asking way too much from them and the lobo is nothing more than an appearance package.
A couple reviews I have read state otherwise on the Lobo. Ford lowered it and gave it better springs, wheels/tires, stance, brakes. I love the stance and look of it It’s not too low, yet can tell it’s lowered. I was very surprised they didn’t offer the 2.3L in it. Ford and Dodge usually try to cram as much HP/TQ into their performance vehicles.
GM has nothing exciting. Both ZR2 and AT4 get destroyed by Ranger Raptor, and they look Tonka Toyish. Stupid looking in my opinion.
Still waiting for the standard bed option to be added and increase the rear legroom
Needs a v6 to compete with Ford. The Colorado interior is so cheap on the 3rd Gen. Mine has 21,000 miles and door panels are rattling, dash rattles, instrument cluster is sticking out 1/2 inch on one side from a clip that came off and fell behind dash. Very poor quality , disappointed. I have owned GM trucks for 52 years, this 3rd gen Colorado feels Hyundai cheap. My ZR2 looked good at first but is not holding up like I expected.
