The GM Authority Take

The decline in Chevrolet Brazil sales in March follows the three percent drop suffered in February and marks the brand’s second consecutive monthly decline in the local market, losing 1,293 units year-over-year. Still, last month’s 20,163 sales represent a significant improvement over the 15,998 deliveries in February, improving Chevrolet’s position in the market and eliminating the risk of losing its third place among the local best-sellers.

Seven of Chevrolet Brazil’s ten models were in the red during March, all with notable double-digit drops. Among them, the Chevy Onix was impacted the most, accounting for the largest year-over-year drop of 1,670 units to see 10,069 deliveries. However, much like the Chevy brand, the Onix saw an improvement in volume compared to its weak result in February, reinforcing its role as Chevy’s most popular model and the best-selling car in the Brazilian market – only marginally surpassed by the Fiat Strada pickup truck with 10,256 units.

By contrast, three nameplates were in the green during the month, led by the Chevy S10 pickup and the Chevy Spin MPV. The S10 midsize truck regained over 1,000 units month-on-month, allowing it to close the gap with the Ford Ranger and come very close to regaining second place among the best-selling pickups in its class locally. Meanwhile, the Spin stood out with the largest increase in terms of both percentage and volume for the month, remaining the brand’s fastest-growing model.
