A new base trim of the Tesla Cybertruck has arrived on the market, lowering the cost of entry for the controversial electric truck. The new Cybertruck Long Range starts at $72,235 and qualifies for the $7,500 federal EV tax credit, putting it in about the same pricing territory as the 5WT and LT trims of the Chevy Silverado EV and the Extended Range variant of the GMC Sierra EV Elevation.
The Tesla Cybertruck Long Range is the first single-motor, RWD variant of the Cybertruck. Tesla estimates a 6.2-second 0-60 mph time, a 350-mile range, and a 7,500-pound towing capacity. Tesla calls this decontented Cybertruck an “Endurance Hauler.” It has an adaptive coil spring suspension system rather than air suspension, cloth seats, heated front seats (the other two trims have heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats), no backseat screen, and seven speakers rather than 15. It also lacks the “vault bed” with a motorized tonneau cover (a soft tonneau is optional), outlets in the bed, and the signature rear light bar.
Although the Tesla Cybertruck was America’s best-selling electric pickup truck in 2024, sales have slowed down since late last year. This is due to a few factors like the subsiding of the initial hype around the radically styled truck, more options arriving on the market, and a reputation problem for Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
A more affordable base model puts the Cybertruck a little more within reach of would-be electric truck buyers, but its price tag is still a far cry from the $39,900 base model that Musk promised when the truck was unveiled in 2019. It’s still pricier than the revised $60,990 base price Tesla estimated in 2023.
Meanwhile, more variety in electric pickup trucks is gradually coming to GM dealers across the country. The GMC Sierra EV is still Denali-only for the 2025 model year, but the rugged AT4 and more affordable Elevation models are finally coming for 2026. Additionally, 2025 saw the introduction of the mid-range LT trim for the Chevy Silverado EV slotted between the work-ready WT models and the sporty RST.

Won’t help. The CT is a ridiculous absurdity and now that all the fashionistas already have one….
Yep. All the power and acceleration of an Equinox EV coupled with the towing capacity of a Chevy Colorado, but it still costs more than a Silverado EV 5WT which has far better specs (two motors, AWD, 5000lb higher towing capacity, offboard power delivery, etc).
Yea the WT is the best value at this point.
“Fashionistas”. Nicely put Beachy.
I was trying to think of a word for the folks that would buy a CT and that fits it perfectly.
I haven’t seen one Silverado EV on the road just rotting on dealer lots. Cybertrucks are everywhere. So maybe open your eyes?
Open my eyes? I have great vision, and I wouldn’t have the most butt ugly vehicle on the road in my driveway. I sure wouldn’t want a vehicle that the panels are falling off, since they used crappy glue to fasten them to the “truck?” Eyes wide open Daniel, and who would want a Tesla, that the Musk haters are vandalizing?
There are a lot more F-150 Lightnings on the road.
Silverado sales may not be where they need to be yet, but they’re still increasing. We’ll see if the Cybertruck can return to growth with the new decontented trim.
While i don’t like it personally, the Cybertruck has outsold the Lightning 2:1.
Sorry, but you have that almost backwards. Through the first quarter of 2025 there were 45,371 Cybertrucks sold and 80,555 Lightnings.
Last quarter it was 6,406 Cybertrucks to 7,187 Lightnings.
The only quarter the Cybertruck outsold the Lightning by a 2:1 margin was Q3 of last year, when they first made the non-launch editions available. They outsold be a smaller margin in Q2 and Q4 of 2024, but have otherwise been behind Ford.
Cybertrucks are not everywhere.
Cybertruck has to be the ugliest vehicle on the road.
Sounds like you’re a Musk hater.
Looks like you need need glasses.
A new price but these things are still way over priced for a back yard dumpster even if they have wheels…….
All these large trucks are too expensive!!!
Doesn’t anyone else think the prices are ridiculous? (maybe it’s just me?)
I would prefer an PHEV electric small truck with 2 doors and a 6′ bed, priced in the Ford Maverick range. How about a S-10/Sonoma PHEV? If the Maverick had a longer bed then that would do. I don’t care what it looks like as long as it can get the job done for a decent price.
I like the idea behind the series hybrid in the new 2026 Ramcharger REV (works kind of like a locomotive or a U-boat), but since it’s full size it’s likely to be too expensive as well.
Sorry, I will stop my ranting now. Folks with more money than I can pick up from here.
Sorry but for $72k+ it needs power at all four wheels.
2WD was excusable when you could get a basic C1500 work truck for under $12k. Those days are LONG past.
That would have to be one of the ugliest vehicles I have ever seen ever seen. It even looks like crap.
It reminds me of a vehicle that is trying to look futuristic in a cheap sci-fi movie. Just not my cup of tea but to some it is a cool truck. To each their own. I wonder what the market saturation is for the cyber truck.
Based on the reported major slow down CT in sales, I’d say they’ve saturated the early adopters and there’s apparently not a whole lot of follow-on business. The horrific resale value and Musk’s public persona probably haven’t helped either.
