The GM Authority Take

Cadillac XT4 sales results during Q4 2024 were one of the healthiest in this space, growing in volume and segment share. That, however, wasn’t enough to move it above seventh place among ten models.

To add insult to injury, the XT4 has been discontinued, with production ending in January. As such, Q4 2024 was the last quarter of full production. GM’s initial plan was to pause XT4 production for much of the 2025 calendar year to allow it to retool the GM Fairfax plant in Kansas City for the next-generation of the Chevy Bolt EV, which is expected to arrive for the 2026 model year. Now, however, XT4 production ended in January, which means the refresh of the small luxury crossover will have lasted just two model years before the nameplate is sunset. Adding even more insult to injury, the refreshed 2025 Cadillac XT4 was just officially introduced in Japan after launching in the Middle East this past summer.

Looking ahead, the XT4 will see its sales dwindle as grounded inventory runs out. That said, the XT4 is being indirectly replaced by the Cadillac Optiq. It will be interesting to see whether the Optiq will become a better seller than the XT4 for GM.

Meanwhile, Buick Envision sales were as healthy as those of the XT4, keeping it in second place in the segment. Combined sales of the two models put GM very close to threatening the perennially best-selling Lexus NX. Alas, the Buick Envision will likely not be long for the North American market given the Trump administration’s incoming 25 percent tariff on vehicles built outside the U.S. As a reminder, the Envision is imported from China.

About Cadillac XT4

The 2025 Cadillac XT4 arrives with more standard safety features than the refreshed 2024 model, including the Active Safety Package, offered as standard on Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels. However, it will drop two safety features: Automatic Speed Limit Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. Also, the 2025 XT4 drops the Luxury trim level, with the Premium Luxury becoming the entry-level trim.

Under the hood, the 2025 XT4 carries over the turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, producing 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission for both front-wheel- and all-wheel-drive configurations, with the latter featuring GM’s Intelligent Dual-Clutch AWD system. The 2025 XT4 can tow up to 3,500 pounds when equipped with the Trailering Package.

  1. I disagree that the Optiq is a replacement for the XT4. The Optiq is almost identical length as the XT5. Cadillac will have no vehicle the size of an XT4 unless there will be a Cadillac version of the new Bolt.

  2. People are buying the XT4 because it’s the last chance for a Caddy XT4 ICE model. Another GM/Cadillac mistake, imo obviously. How about hybrid models before going all EV?!?!?!

    1. That’s exactly what I did in February.

  4. Wow anyone with a third-grade education could be the president of GM given some of the recent “stupid” investment decisions.

  5. The Buick Envision looks like it is about to go from a couple thousand cheaper than the xt4, to several thousand more expensive. I bet the xt4 sees a lot of love in Q2. Bummer about them running out around June though.

  6. Love our ‘24 XT4 Premium Luxury, radiant red tint coat, purchased in August at $1500 off sticker ($1000 gm rebate & $500 educator discount). Sadly, it will be our first but last Cadillac vehicle has we couldn’t afford an Escalade and have absolutely no need or desire for an EV in our rural area. Caddy making a big mistake going almost all ev. The dealer where we made our purchase had lines of unsold EV’s gathering dust at the time we were there. We drove two hours to make the purchase, as our local dealer dropped the Cadillac franchise after about 50 years rather than spend big bucks to sell EV’s.
