The Cadillac F1 team, made possible by TWG Motorsports, is formally locked in, with the GM-backed outfit set to become the sport’s 11th entry in 2026. Some details, like its temporary engine deal with Ferrari, are already public, but there’s still quite a bit of mystery surrounding GM’s foray into international open wheel racing. That’s expected to change this upcoming weekend at the Miami Grand Prix, as GM will make a major announcement regarding its F1 efforts.
On May 3rd, 2025, the Cadillac F1 team will reveal its colors for the 2026 campaign. The race car itself will not be display, but the official livery will decorate an FIA show car, giving the world a first glimpse at the colors that will hit the track next year.
While the driver lineup of the Cadillac F1 team is still being hammered out, the organization has noted that it’s interested in securing young talent alongside a more experienced F1 veteran for its two-car stable. The leading candidate is Sergio “Checo” Pérez, who was dropped by Red Bull Racing in 2024. Pérez stated that he has no interest in returning to Red Bull, which is partnering with GM’s crosstown rival Ford in 2026, making him an ideal choice for Cadillac next year.
Mick Schumacher has been floated as a possible wheelman as well, along with young IndyCar driver Colton Herta, although the latter isn’t sure he’s ready to turn his back on his Indy career quite yet.
As a reminder, GM recently received formal approval to become an engine supplier in 2029. The automaker created a dedicated F1 engine division called GM Precision Power Units, which will be located near the GM Technical Center campus in Charlotte with CEO Russ O’Blenes at the helm. TWG Motorsports, meanwhile, will be headed by team principal Graeme Lowdon and CEO Dan Towriss, who stepped up to the plate after Michael Andretti relinquished his hands-on role.
The Cadillac F1 deal has already proven to be an expensive undertaking for GM. In fact, the automaker had to shell out a $450 million “antidilution” fee to secure its spot on the grid in 2026.

Mick Schumacher is NOT the driver they need.
Agree. They need a fairly seasoned driver that knows how to communicate with engineers on how to set up a car.
