GM luxury brand Cadillac says it expects sales of electric vehicles or EVs to account for as much as 35 percent of its business in 2025, with 30 percent as the lower threshold, bucking the relatively weak demand America has generated recently for battery-electric models.
The upper limit of the Cadillac EV sales target is almost double the brand’s electric vehicle sales proportion in 2024, when EVs accounted for 18 percent of Caddy new vehicle purchases, CNBC says.
Despite the ambitiousness of the goal Cadillac marketing director Brad Franz is confident it is achievable. He remarked that “we’re not launching the vehicles to redistribute the business among [internal combustion engines] and EV portfolio. It’s to grow the business.”
Franz added that “the momentum is really there” for electric vehicles, and that “we’re going to ride that momentum.” He continued by saying that the brand is determined to give customers plenty of options. For this reason, “our EV portfolio will complement our gas power side of the portfolio and bring new customers to the brand.”
Sales of the Cadillac Lyriq crossover and the Cadillac Escalade IQ made up 17.8 percent of Caddy sales in Q4 2024, with the super-expensive Celestiq likely adding very little to the brand’s bottom line. New electrified models have either arrived or are on the way, including the Optiq, the Vistiq, the high-performance Lyriq-V crossover, and the extended-length Escalade IQL SUV.
Brad Franz singled out two of these models for special mention. He said the Optiq is the affordable, entry-level end of the range. Meanwhile the Escalade IQ forms the top end of the portfolio, with the marque “taking everything that Escalade means today in the marketplace and now offering it as an EV halo that customers will recognize and trust.” He said the two models “are going to ramp up very fast.”
Ongoing elimination of ICE models from the lineup will also help to raise the proportion of EVs sold. The XT4 has already been dropped and GM Authority expects the Cadillac XT5 and Cadillac XT6 crossovers to go on the chopping block following the 2025 model year as well.

…a third of a comparably lower annual total sales levels.
Q2-Q4 sales of everything will be miniscule compared to Q1, unless tariffs are cancelled.
Somebody’s blowing smoke. If the EVs are intended to complement the ICE models, why are all of the XT crossovers – the volume units – on the chopping block?
Good question. GM is attempting to force the marketplace to ED’S by getting rid of XT 4 5, 6. I believe with weak mileage ranges, charging times, lack of available charging stations and possible elimination of tax credits this will be an impossible task…GM is risking much here. I have a 2024 leased XT6 and when my lease is up I’ll either buy the XT6 or opt for a GMC suv vehicle…no EV’s for me.
I’m right there with you, GM has their head up their _ _ _.-!!!!!
No EV’s for me.
I think hydrogen fuels will replace battery power and it may not be that far away.
They are on the chopping block because they’re mediocre. So they either write off EV investments, or spend more money improving them. The current Cadillac buyer demographic is dying off so its kind of a lose – lose
Like my grandpa used to say; crap in one hand and put your expectations in the other – see which one fills up the fastest.
Stupid Think for sure. If you don’t make a product people will simply go to another manufacturer.
Lol as an ICE owner, it’s hilarious how the group that’s always calling everyone else “snowflakes,” get triggered anytime EVs are mentioned. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and walk over to another dealership who sells ICE instead of crying about EVs online all day.
You can shove your EV’s! They don’t work in the very cold north! I’ll NEVER buy one! I make 9 800 mile round trips to Mayo in 9 weeks (400 mi each way) and you don’t have an electric that can make is without recharging (where)!
Did you forget thst you need electricity to pump gas? Just use that same electricity to charge it. It costs less.
Keep enjoying your that pre 2015 Chevy Equinox that you own.
The Silverado EV easily goes 400 miles. Charge up at the destination, then drive back home. It is one thing to simply not want an EV. That’s fine. But to pretend they don’t work is ludicrous.
Downvoting facts does not make those facts stop being true.
Perhaps not Mudman but the marketplace is speaking on the Silverado EV. GM planned to be building 600,000 Silverado/Sierra EVs a year by 2025 according to a January 25, 2022 GM press release announcing the investment and conversion of Orion to EV pickup production. Instead they’re building less than 10,000 units and the Orion manufacturing facility has never reopened after its conversion.
The Silverado/Sierra EV pickups may be fine vehicles on paper but given their high price and other drawbacks, consumers have not embraced them as GM was expecting. It appears that GM thought everyone buying an ICE truck would just jump right into an EV, pay a $40K premium and they’d be selling EVs in the same volumes as ICE. That was foolish I’d say.
try towing or loading it with tools and it ain’t going 400 miles — let alone 400 miles in winter midwest weather.
Loading it with tooks will not change the range significantly. Mass matters most during acceleration. It is the aero of towing a trailer that affects range more than weight.
But at any rate, the Silverado EV easily tows most trailers 250 miles or so. If you regularly need more than that, by all means buy a diesel. I am not saying an EV suits all use cases, just refuting the silly claim that they won’t work in Canada.
No EV’s for me, no not ever-!
So you 1% of yearly trips is worth more than the savings and experience an EV provides? Uh no. Forrest not trees.
35% in 2025? Yeah, right. And someday, pigs will fly. Like another poster, I routinely drive over 400 miles each day in my company car for work. Most of the places I drive don’t even have chargers. And when it’s cold out, the range would be severely limited. Thanks, but I’ll keep my IC E car.
IC E = In Cognito Electric!
They were 18% last year with only one model on offer, 19.4% last quarter with only early sales of the Optiq and first full quarter of the IQ, and have the Vistiq, IQL, Lyriq-V and Optiq-V in queue.
No matter how much gas Cadillac fans want to gross about it, 35% is very achievable.
Yep, and those fleeing Tesla will make up a good chunk of the sales increase. No need to worry about keys with Caddy.
Lyriq sales dropped by as many Optiqs that they sold. They moved their own customers down market. The vistiq might have its own market, but the reason EVs will clear 35% is because they will be out of xt4s by June.
Very achievable when 35% of a few is less than a few
Did a job Saturday. Drove about 250 miles. Plugged in when I arrived. Did the job and the truck charged while I was working. Drove back home. Was no less convenient than when I used to do the same route in an ICE truck.
I drove a Chevy Equinox EV last week and it is a fantastic EV. Yesterday I visited Ed Morse Cadillac in Florida and saw and sat in a new white 2025 Optiq, which is beautiful ( I cannot post pictures of it here). The salesman said that the EVs are selling very well. I slso saw a beige Escalade IQ and a gray Lyriq. Cadillac is doing very well in Florida. Go see them and do test drives. You will be convinced that EVs are better!
Hi GM owner, to fortify your comments last week I owned a 2024 Equinox 2LT EV and I loved it but wanted a bit better so this past Monday (3/31), knowing that it was the end of the quarter and dealerships were prone to negotiating I purchased an Optiq Sport.
Interestingly after six full months of ownership the Equinox never had to return to the dealer for anything. My new Optiq already has spent one full day at the dealership and it has to return for additional work. Nothing major, just goofy things that the dealership should have corrected before I took possession of it. E.g., glue on the center arm rest, the radios rear speakers not working properly with the front speakers even though there was a gm TSB concerning the issue since February. However the dealership claimed that the TSB was installed before I received the car. Before I returned the car for the service I checked the onboard updates and it was not installed. After I picked up the Optiq the update was “magically” listed. I really dislike being B.S.’d.
Many dealerships treat their customers like they are ignorant as are the folks on this blog who say negative comments about EV’s and have never even tried to test drive an EV. And no, EV’s are not for everyone but no one is holding anyone hostage to purchase one. If you need to drive +400 miles a day an EV doesn’t make sense. If you need to tow something over 100 miles daily an EV doesn’t make sense.
I drive +200 miles a week, own a home and garage my cars and only need a 110v outlet to keep it charged. If you live in an apartment and don’t have safe access to a wall outlet then an EV doesn’t make sense.
It’s not rocket science, you just have too many folks that hate their own life and don’t want to see other folks enjoying their lives.
INDEED THERE ARE MANY MILLIONAIRES BUYING SUCH EVS
Mary you are smoking some bad stuff ,, this is going to bite you where you seat .. Gas prices are dropping ice mileage is going up .. for us it’s ICE..
In Europe where driving distances are short and the weather is warm, Electrics are wise! In Northern US and Canada where people think nothing of driving 7 hours in the cold, electrics do not work. Wisely Stellantis has developed an interesting Hybrid truck… Electric for trips to pick up supplies and gas for long trips!
I live in Canada. Just took a 950km trip in an EV Saturday. Funny how it is only the people who have never actually been in an EV who are the most unreasonably sure of themselves about them.
When thats all you sell, of course it will be 1/3 of sales. And at those prices, it will be less
I’ve driven my 2024 Lyriq Luxury 2 AWD 30,000 miles. It is outstanding in every respect. 500 hp with lots of torque. . Very comfortable and quiet. The Super Cruise makes driving enjoyable. I keep learning new entertaining and helpful features on the inortataiment system . At home is the convenience of charging in my garage. On my very frequent road trips EVgo (pull through and covered) and Tesla Superchargers are the best. The only maintenance has been four tire rotations. EVs are very fun and really can simplify one’s life.
The world is moving on with or without you. Price is the only delay of it which will come down as mass production goes up. But then there are people in power who would rather you dig and breathe in coal dust still! Thank god that never materialized rather than offering those workers better jobs.
This comment is HILARIOUS! China wants EVs BECAUSE it runs on mainly cheap coal for electricity, it hurts the US who has cheap oil and NG here at home now.
A couple of years ago on this site I predicted that by 2030 Cadillac will be All EV’s and that this was the one way that GM could make Cadillac a Tier One Luxury Brand yet once more.
It is looking like my prediction is correct and this is exactly what is happening.
If I had to guess the only vehicle in the future that will be ICE from Cadillac will be the Escalade (ICE version)
Cadillac transaction prices are way up and will continue to grow. No more bargain basement prices from the Cadillac Brand hence the deletion of ALL the XT vehicles soon.
The upcoming EV sedans will most likely go up in price as well.
I am very happy with GM as they FINALLY took this very last chance to resurrect the Cadillac Brand to what it should have always been. Cannot wait to see what GM has in store for us in the future.
If I had to nitpick, I would say that Cadillac being a Luxury Brand should have ALL of their vehicles on an 800 Volt Architecture but the All New platform should be coming very soon and my prediction is it will be showcased on the upcoming Sedans. The Lyriq and the Vistiq barely have a decent charging speed but the Optiq is just NOT competitive at all basically.
Moving to native NACS ports on the vehicles should really help them but just still not good enough.
Good luck with that!
I wish a lot of options meant interior and exterior colors. My lone caddy is an awesome 74 Talisman, 33,500 original miles, real carpeting and seats that are beyond comfortable. Most likely I will never buy a new caddy. Not sure why I even drifted over here.
Make a Lyriq hybrid and the plant will run 3 shifts.
