Cadillac DPi, Corvette Daytona Prototype Dominate HSR Prototype Challenge

The Cadillac DPi was replaced by the Cadillac V-Series.R in the upper echelons of international sports car racing, but the DPi is still seeing plenty of track time. In fact, the race car won the P1 class in the HSR Prototype Challenge at the 47th HSR The Mitty presented by Hagerty at Road Atlanta on April 26th, 2025. And it wasn’t alone – the Corvette Daytona Prototype (DP) also showed that it’s still a winner, snagging the P2 category victory.

Pierce Marshall and Eric Foss tag-teamed the No. 02 Cadillac DPi to the class victory. It was their first HSR Prototype Challenge victory, and they started from the pole, surging into the lead right away even when the race was slowed for an early caution. Marshall took the first stint, swapping the controls to Foss later on. Foss ditched the field, but faced a challenge when a late-race caution bunched everyone back up.

The No. 10 Cadillac DPi, driven by Malcom Ross and Pippa Mann, were the only real competition to Marshall and Foss. They tried to track the No. 02 Caddy down, but Foss was able to stay well ahead of them, crossing the line first.

“It was obviously a fantastic race. We had a little scare there with a full-course caution with about 10 minutes to go,” Marshall said. “Thankfully, Eric [Foss] had maybe five cars between him and Pippa [Mann], so that gave him a chance to put a little gap on her that kept us good to the checkered flag.”

The No. 09 Corvette DP – which was the only third-gen Daytona Prototype in the race – was driven by the father-son duo of Wally Owens and Kevin Owens. The No. 09 Vette started 12th and valiantly fought to seventh place overall, tailing two P1 class entries and four P3 racers. The Owens walked away with the P2 class victory.

“It was good, it was very hot at the end,” said Kevin Owens. “To be honest, we didn’t quite have the pace we were expecting, but it worked out for us. Very happy with how things turned out and our result. The guys prepared a great car.”

  2. Yeah, but these are older cars that competed in years ago. Cadillac continues to be mostly trounced in the last couple of years by Porsche and Ferrari in both GTP and GTD in the IMSA and WEC series. GM needs better performance for the money being spent!
