With 650 horsepower on tap from the supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine, the C7-generation Corvette Z06 is no joke. Put the hammer down, and this machine can very quickly get away from even highly skilled and experienced drivers. Nevertheless, that doesn’t stop some folks from testing the limits on public roads, sometimes with dire consequences. Now, we’re watching exactly that with the following viral video.
Recently posted to social media, the video clip is only a few seconds long, but that’s all the time that’s needed for this C7 Corvette Z06 to go from hero to zero. The video includes two angles, both seemingly captured by separate bystanders at a local Cars and Coffee event.
The video kicks off with a black Chevy Corvette Z06 making a lefthand turn onto a wide multi-lane street. A few bystanders are seen at the street intersection, phones out to capture some of the cars as they depart.
As the Corvette gets onto the road, we hear the driver dig into the throttle, and in response, the Vette’s exhaust bellows as a mountain of supercharged twist is dumped at the rear axle. Unfortunately, as soon as the torque hits, the rear end of the Vette steps out, and the driver isn’t prepared for the slide that follows.
The Z06 travels sideways into the adjacent lane, crashing directly into the adjacent curb. Another motorist in a crossover is unfortunate enough to be caught up in the incident, smashing into the rear of the Vette as the sports car hops the curb.
The whole scene elicits shocked gasps from the crowd. A second camera angle provides us with another look at the slide and subsequent crash, showing how the sports car loses the rear under power before smacking into the curb and crossover.
Truth be told, it’s a scene that’s become all too familiar when it comes to these high-powered machines.

What a shame. That was a nice car. More money than sense.
Soon on Ebay – used Z06 Engine and Transmission – $18,000.
Are these guys turning off the active handling control? If so, they’re begging to compete with Mustangs in this genre.
Yes, they are almost surely holding the traction control button for 7 seconds, which also completely disables stability control. Even in PTM Race, the car still tries to keep itself from aggressive slip angles.
As my late Father used to say, “more horsepower than brains”.
Everything is relative… I had that same issue with my 170 HP ’77 Cutlass 350. It’s not hard to over drive an idiot!
As they say in the racing world, “Someone ran out of talent.”…..
Poke fun at the Mustang’s all you want, its well deserved. But, that would be a minor repair for a Ford. The Vette will require major surgery if not a complete write off. Either way, its a miracle any insurance company will even write a policy on these cars and their over-enthusiastic drivers.
Another idiot who can’t drive.
Not an idiot who can’t drive, an idiot who doesn’t think. Cold tires after sitting at the show. There is a time and place for everything and leaving a car show isn’t it.
Thinking they would have enjoyed there afternoon more if he didn’t wreck his car being a dumb ass.
A non-idiot we’re understand cold tires and the capabilities of the car and its operator.
Cold tires, curving road and too much torque equals a problem. Judging by the lack of leaves on the trees and how people are dressed, the pavement is probably cold as well. I’d be a little surprised if the car is totaled, although it’s hard to see how much rear end damage was done when he backed into his victim. Ran out of talent indeed.
