General Motors has just officially unveiled the new Buick Electra GS Concept as an inspiration for the brand’s all-electric sedan plans in China.
The automaker showcased the Buick Electra GS Concept sedan for the first time during the 2025 Buick Brand Day special event in Shanghai, held annually in the Asian country to showcase its latest product, technology, and service offerings. GM says the Electra GS Concept is a key milestone in Buick’s transformation toward smart new energy vehicles, previewing the brand’s next chapter marked by emotional design, signature comfort, and electrified performance.
“The Electra GS is more than a concept, it’s a design manifesto. It’s a bold statement that Buick will continue its success in the electric era with sculptural dynamism, cutting-edge technology, and uncompromised sophistication,” said Chief Design Officer at SAIC-GM and Vice President of GM China Design, Stuart Norris. “Our team is proud to be shaping a global vision from China’s perspective. The Electra GS is just the beginning,” he added.
Aesthetically, the Buick Electra GS Concept introduces a new overall design language for next-generation Buick vehicles called “Kinetic Sculpture,” with which the brand aims to reenergize its growing portfolio of all-electric products. Additionally, the Electra GS represents the first glimpse of an upcoming Buick EV sedan featuring a unique body format with bolder shapes and proportions that maximize cabin space.
In addition to its low, wide stance, which reinvents the familiar three-box body style, the Buick Electra GS stands out for its new, more aggressive and futuristic front end, featuring the “Reverse Checkmark” light signature with laser-cut geometric patterns above ultra-thin headlights. The front end is completed with a revised, sharply contoured shark nose and highly aerodynamic lower moldings.
The recently unveiled Buick Electra GS Concept is a full-size, all-electric sedan measuring 208.7 inches long and riding on a massive, nearly 126-inch wheelbase, making it larger than a Buick LaCrosse. It features a unique shape with a high waistline and a larger-than-usual rear end, featuring a sculpted design that merges the glass roof with a highly distinctive aerodynamic spoiler. The cockpit is the most conceptual, exploring a new cockpit configuration and display layout.
Created by the GM Advanced Design Center in China, which is “redefining the future of Buick through the lens of Chinese creativity and global relevance” to connect with a new generation of customers, the all-new Buick Electra GS Concept will not only influence the design of the brand’s upcoming global vehicles, but could become Buick’s first production EV sedan.

We say “Langweilig” translated as Boring. This Generica can be any brand, Tesla, Lamborgini or any chinese startup those days. Infact, this is not a Buick supposed to be
the new BMW was unveiled too, it is so cheap design like this, all plastic, games details … teenagers carsof new generations. the firefly chinese found more interesting with three circles headlamps front and behind. However is al EV and EV kommt zu uns nicht in frage… as once a bmwler at prototype design 20 years ago said to me, so theyir cars and maybe buick also kommt nicht in frage. however in firefly the outer side mirror was wrong positioned and so we keep travelling dacia and seeing the 40 or 50 years ago AI cars guys generates with lot of chromes at once chrysler was for example chrysler 300 G, miss beautiful cars in streets
That’s a Model 3 rip-off and I don’t like it. Buick needs to find an identity and stick to it, rather than jumping from one design to another like Koreans or Chinese
What language is that? Krautlish?
Heads should roll! That’s ridiculous!
This Tesla rip off can be described in one word! BORING! If a manifesto, it is a communist one, which as it was designed in China is unstandable!
Great looking car. Far better looking than Tesla sedans.
there is no tesla sedans, all they do is tesla coupĂªs or a pick up
The Tesla Model S is a Sedan.
I agree 100%. Teslas are slab sided, and the new ones were supposed to be copying the new Prius -but they’re not. I love the front end of this concept -for an electric car, -aerodynamically functional.
Except for that panorama roof.
No. It needs a proper sedan greenhouse/silouette with A, B and a clearly defined C-pillar. Remember Buick Electra of the old? These people need to take a trip down to the GM Heritage Center. Those B and C-body cars are still loved all these years later
Damn that’s a looker!
Very Nice style. Much better design than any new BMW , the always-the-same-cars from Audi or the strange Lexus.
no one said tesla is bad style, there are sime tiny details like the botox lip or a not connected line at rear window or so but like this is just a straight hand curve once done, congratulations GM vhina you made your slogan of past copy paste sure
Future Malibu EV
I feel like I’ve seen this before.
Perhaps an Oldmobile concept from the ’90s or 2000s?
Very pretty, but the nose is way too generic.
I agree, and to sort of pun, there is nothing zippy about the front, it’s nothing but a BUG collector, same as Tesla, no real thought into it to make it look like a classy Buick of old.
Put a grill and ICE in it and I’m on board!
I’d be interested if it has Voltec powerplant.
This does not look Buicky!
I do see the Tesla like stuff, but sad that this is the best GM design can come up with given Buick’s design history.
Very Disappointing. Like the phoning it home Cadillac did with Vistiq
If Buick was given the same amount of TLC to their US cars than they do their Chinese cars they would be a huge sales success in the US. As it is Buick sells more cars than Acura, Infiniti, Volvo, and only slightly less than Audi in the US. The potential is there.
Heck I sat in the new Enclave Avenir, and I’m sorry to say. I love my XT5, but that Enclave Avenir felt more like what I expect a Cadillac should be than my XT5. Put a Caddy badge on it and I would be convinced its a Caddy. That’s how nice it is. This of course isn’t an insult to Cadillac but rather a compliment to the potential of Buick.
A complete missed opportunity on GMs part to let Buick languish in the states. With Infinitis future up in the air, Acura dragging their feet, Chrysler and its Stellantis sister brands also with uncertain futures, you’d think this would be a chance for Buick to carve back some US market share.
My brand new Buick Envision Avenir rivals our Cadillac XT4. Thank you GM/CCP.
XT5 ???? What is dat. A new kind of desighner drug??. Far out and groovy MAN.
ELONgated MUSKrat wants his design back
Now there’s a jellybean I’d like to chew on!
Needs more American styling. If this car didn’t have the Buick logo, I would have thought it was a Korean car
You do not any fashion or style sense . Me thinks
Great looking car, so happy that Buick is still around. So many people wanting designs from years ago, it’s time to let go of the past and move into the future and I think that’s what Buick is doing. If GM would give a little more love to the Buick here in the United States with marketing I think they would have some great sales. Buick in my opinion competes with Cadillac in the luxury car market. The new Buick’s are really super nice.
All Buick’s currently sold in the US have that disgusting gaping fish mouth front end. I just can’t see how anyone finds it attractive.
The excellent Ford Shelby also has a fish mouth. Look for it.
Another car gm can lose millions on.
gm car ?? You are obviously not talking about General Motors. I bet this lets the air out of you tires ( Head maybe??.). NOOOO!!!
A GM vehicle that does not smile? Damm, that’s rough.
As far as EVs go, this one isn’t too too bad. I do like it more than most, if not all other EV Cars. Range equals aerodynamics. That’s why they all “look” the same. I hate it , but I get it.
I would like to see a “Grille” of some sort on EV’s. Front end styling, in my opinion, is important, even if it’s purely cosmetic.
Another EV where styling has no emotion or passion. The styling of the Electra is generic. It could be a Chevy, Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile Cadillac or GMC sedan.
It might as well be a Pontiac or an Oldsmobile, cars Americans bought in large numbers once.
This is seriously supposed to be some sort of accomplishment? Great job, another blob that looks like everything else.
Sure would like to see that on the road with a 4.3 liter V6.
GM is always late to the party with offerings never matching concept vehicles. Buick, with Tesla dying in the US, has a huge opportunity but will arrive a day late and dollar short. In addition, the winged lighting element has been destroyed. Latest Chinese models scream Mazda, that’s okay, but Buick’s signature lighting elements shouldn’t be left behind. Looks great on Chinese Regal
Also, Low crossovers like Envista and the new EV exclusively for China are, basically, high riding sedans that sell.
GM is
Buick nice design. China made & designed by Chinese designers????
GM does something stupid and boring AGAIN.
“High waistline” makes it a non-starter for me.
I WANT to be able to comfortably rest my left arm on the window sill… AND have all of the visibility that also provides. (Exactly the reasons I never considered the 2009-to-the-final Camaro.)
China, enough said!
Another oversized monster from GM. This is longer than the already too big Lyriq.
Nice concept, hope it makes it to production.
Crying Shame to put the Electra name on yet another EV … they no one wants. My Dad drove Electra 225s right up to the last year built in 1990 … then switched over to Oldsmobile as he liked my Cutlass Wagon and bought the Delta 98. And then when GM blew it an discontinued the Olds family he switch over to Cadillac. His heart was always with his “Duce + 1/4” and always regretted selling his last 225. GM you have a “stable” of past great vehicles to draw upon for new product, why in the Hell do you waste time, money, an resources yet again to bring to market another SUV class vehicle no one really wants, and especially to a EV market that by all with exception to maybe Tesla is dying.
