The automaker’s Mexican subsidiary is celebrating 30 years of the company’s engineering complex in the Latin American country, officially called the Toluca Regional Engineering Center (TREC), located in the state of Mexico. As such, GM Mexico’s TREC completes three decades of operations, leading the design of interior components within the U.S. company’s global engineering and manufacturing system.

“The TREC team has been instrumental in GM’s global vehicle development. After 30 years of constant innovation, it has established itself as a pillar of excellence in automotive design” said José Ruede, Director of GM Mexico’s Toluca Regional Engineering Center. “We are deeply proud of our legacy and are committed to continuing to drive the future of mobility through advanced technology and innovative design. This anniversary reaffirms our dedication to leading the automotive industry into the future,” he added.

Specifically, the Toluca Regional Engineering Center is an industrial complex that plays an important role in GM’s global vehicle development process, responsible for the design, development, and validation of vehicle interior components, electrical systems, and thermal systems for the company’s entire product portfolio. In fact, the components developed at GM Mexico’s TREC are used in approximately 24 GM plants worldwide.

Since its founding in early 1995, GM Mexico’s Toluca Regional Engineering Center has established itself as one of the company’s most important engineering complexes in the world, participating annually in the development and validation of more than 5,000 interior components for all GM brands. These components range from door panels and dashboards to infotainment systems, with 245 registered patents.

The 30th anniversary of GM Mexico’s Toluca Regional Engineering Center reaffirms the leadership and strategic role of this facility, which has contributed to the development of iconic next-generation internal combustion and electric vehicles such as the Chevy Blazer EV, Chevy Corvette, Buick Enclave, GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Optiq. The complex employs 700 engineers in specialized areas, including the Innovation Lab and other facilities with various functions.
