2026 GMC Hummer EV With King Crab Mode To Be Revealed In May: Video

GMC just dropped a fresh teaser video for what appears to be a new off-road driving mode set to debut with the 2026 GMC Hummer EV.

The video teaser is only 12 seconds long and shows the GMC Hummer EV SUV performing donuts in a snowy field. The video then shows the driver press a button on the center console, resulting in a triangular graphic popping up that transforms into a stylized crab. We then see the text “King Of The Off-Road”, followed by a date – May 15th, 2025.

No further information is provided. Nevertheless, GM Authority has a few insights into what GMC may be gearing up to reveal next month.

Let’s start with the button in the center console and the triangular crab graphic. As GM Authority covered some time ago, the GMC Hummer EV center console currently includes an odd triangular-shaped icon on the drive mode selector, which looks identical to the graphic shown in the teaser. This icon is located near several other drive mode functions that control things like the ride height settings and rear wheel steering settings, including CrabWalk. For now, pressing this button results in a message popping up on the driver information screen reading “Your Mode. Your Mission. [email protected]”.

The email address suggests GMC has been collecting customers’ suggestions regarding what this button should actually do, and that the button will be used for some sort of new driving mode set to roll out in May.

Then we have the “King Crab” trademark filing that GM Authority uncovered in March. The filing includes a usage description of “electronic controllers for steering systems for motor land vehicles,” as well the same stylized, triangular crab logo featured in the video.

All of this suggests that the 2026 GMC Hummer EV will debut a new “King Crab” off-road driving mode next month. The exact nature of what King Crab mode will entail remains uncertain, but it likely has something do with enhanced off-road performance and the rear-wheel steering system. It will likely be a software upgrade as well, and should roll out to existing units of the Hummer EV.

One possibility is that the mode will set the rear wheels in forward drive, and the front wheels in reverse drive, effectively making the GMC Hummer EV spin like a top, similar to what’s seen in the new teaser. Either way, stay tuned for further updates, and in the meantime, check out the new 2026 GMC Hummer EV teaser video right here:

  3. Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of manufacturers of EV’s have gimmicks trying to make their products more desirable. Big glass roofs, removable roofs and folding roofs etc. How about they forget these foolish things and give us more than 6 exterior colors and the oh my gosh sooooo tired of black interiors.
