In addition to the recent launch of the 2026 Chevy D-Max in Ecuador as a regional novelty, Chevrolet’s new pickup truck will be heading to more South American markets in the near future.
General Motors’ South American subsidiary has just introduced the new 2026 Chevy D-Max pickup in Ecuador, the first country in South America to receive the new generation of the model – first introduced in Mexico as the Chevy S10 Max. However, the leader of the company’s new Pacific Cluster division revealed that after its arrival at Ecuadorian dealerships, the new D-Max will also reach other markets in the region.
“Due to the significant weight of the pickup truck segment in Ecuador, which is much stronger than in other markets, this country will be the starting point for this new version of the D-Max,” said Raúl Mier, Pacific Cluster Commercial Director at GM South America, to Primicias. “Ecuador will be a pilot for evaluating this product, developing preferences, and developing it, which will allow us to later extrapolate it to other markets in the region,” he added.
These official statements show that the corporate strategy for the new 2026 Chevy D-Max is not limited to Ecuador, which is the largest market for the D-Max nameplate, but broader, eventually reaching more South American markets. As such, Chevrolet can expand its truck portfolio to other countries that could benefit from an additional model below the Brazilian Chevy S10/Colorado.
It’s worth noting that GM holds the legal rights to the D-Max name in South America, and the nameplate is very popular in several countries in the region where the original model, based on the Isuzu D-Max, was marketed. In fact, the automaker’s new Pacific Cluster division is responsible for operations in Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia; all of which have room for the 2026 Chevy D-Max below the Colorado.
The new 2026 Chevy D-Max is expected to expand its presence outside of Ecuador and gradually arrive in more South American markets, especially countries in the Andean region with similar demographic and economic characteristics. Among them, Colombia has the greatest potential due to its shared Chevrolet commercial strategy with Ecuador, the strong local popularity of the D-Max name, and the absence of the Maxus T60, which serves as the basis for the new model.

There’s an opportunity for a more affordable anything in the US now.
You needed to put ‘now’ in all capital letters.
Another Chinese POS? Aww, what a nightmare.
You know, they did this because there are many who cannot afford a Hilux… or an Isuzu D Max. Or even the standard Colorado s10.
It’s a disgrace, but what to do…
Why can’t this truck come to America? I’d rather have this truck is my Colorado.2024
We need that truck here in America!!! I’ve been looking for another mid size pick up truck since my 2002 Chevy S10 crew cab broke down on me.
