Expanding the options available to buyers as the 2025 GMC Sierra EV brings in the second model year of the electric pickup, five paint colors have been added to the solitary exterior paint – Thunderstorm Gray – available in 2024.
Dark Ember Tintcoat is one of the five new paints for the 2025 GMC Sierra EV, adding a dark reddish maroon color to the palette, and is getting a closer look from GM Authority here in this post.
Color code GAB and touch-up paint code WA-219K are used to designate Dark Ember Tintcoat. The 2025 GMC Sierra EV offers – including Dark Ember – the following list of half a dozen exterior paint colors:
- Dark Ember Tintcoat (GAB – new for 2025)
- Deep Ocean Metallic (GAI – new for 2025)
- Moonlight Matte (GLG – new for 2025)
- Onyx Black (GBA – new for 2025)
- Summit White (GAZ – new for 2025)
- Thunderstorm Gray (GNO)
Dark Ember Tintcoat is priced at an additional $645 for the 2025 model year. As GM Authority has described in our comprehensive GM paint type guide, tintcoat colors provide a deep, rich color with multiple layers of paint, somewhat similar to “candy” paint jobs, with a base coat covered by a tinted clearcoat. Dark Ember Tintcoat can be ordered in conjunction with either interior colorway of the 2025 GMC Sierra EV.
As a reminder, the two interior colorways cover the basic tan and black cockpit options, and consist of the following two named colorways:
- After Dark
- Desert Dune
Pricing starts at $91,995 for the Denali Extended Range, since the Denali trim level is the only one available at launch for the 2025 Sierra EV. The Denali Max Range starts at $100,495, with both prices inclusive of a $2,095 destination freight charge. The trim level range is expanding for the 2026 model year with an entry-level Elevation trim and an off-road capable AT4 trim. The AT4 will get standard high definition Surround Vision and Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist features, along with tow hooks, Crabwalk, and other off-road tweaks.
The GM drive motors and GM batteries powering the Sierra EV provide 645 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque for the Extended Range configuration. Opting for Max Range boosts these output metrics to 760 horsepower and 785 pound-feet of torque.
The GM BT1 platform is found beneath the Sierra EV’s body panels. The GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan carries out current production and will be eventually joined by the GM Lake Orion plant as well.

Who is buying these?
Basically nobody. GMC sold 1,249 in the first quarter of 2025 so they’re on track to move about 5,000 this year. That’s fine with me but GM has eliminated many products through the years that I really liked because they said they weren’t selling well enough. The Cadillac CT6 (average annual sales of about 10,000 units) is a recent example. With EVs though, they’re stubbornly sticking with them and seemingly violating their own policies.
I bought one (in a diff color), best vehicle ever (for my needs)!
I like that color.
Good God. $100,000 bucks for a pick-up truck. The world has truly lost its mind. I long for the day of having a P/U with vinyl seats and floor with a 3 speed on the column and you don’t feel like you need to cover the bed with a quilt, so it won’t get scratched. I mean after all it a $100,000 truck.
That color would look great on a luxury sedan (CT-5).
Looks similar to the old redwood metallic which I never saw on a vehicle yet.
Great looking color. I’d buy a CT5 in that color.
I love the color. I really want to like this truck, but for $100k is out right ignorant. Price it at $65k and I’d think about it real quick like!!
The Elevation trim of GMC Sierra EV is priced closer to that level. $90k is for the Denali trim.
$90k is still outlandish!!
Muted maroon.
Elevation Sierra EV starts at around $64,000.00
