As the world moves into the future at what seems like an ever-quickening pace, it’s always nice to see a classic get a little love. This 1971 Oldsmobile 442 is one good example. Parked in storage back in the late ‘90s, this gorgeous muscle car has sat under a blanket of dust for nearly three decades. Now, it’s getting a full detailing in the following video.
Once again coming to us from the folks at WD Detailing, the video is about 36-and-a-half minutes long, and provides footage of the initial reveal, plus the in-depth clean-up that follows.
After mistakenly attempting to open the wrong storage unit, the WD Detailing crew reveals the Oldsmobile 442 set for rescue. First impressions reveal that it’s in surprisingly good shape, with an intact interior and some new tires, making it ready to transport.
The original owner, Trish, explains that the car was stored because her husband was in the Navy, and frequent moves made it impractical to keep the Oldsmobile 442 on the road. However, the car still holds significant sentimental value, and was even used on the couple’s first date. Now, Trish plans to pass it on to a family friend, Bob, who is set on preserving it.
After carefully rolling the Oldsmobile 442 out of storage, the WD Detailing team transports it to its shop for inspection and cleaning. While the exterior paint is in rough shape, the car’s structure is solid, with minimal rust and a well-preserved undercarriage.
Meanwhile, the interior, though intact, needs some serious cleaning, especially the sticky and deteriorating steering wheel. As such, the team removes the old carpets and thoroughly clean the white leather seats.
Under the hood, they confirm that the car is powered by a 455 V8 engine. The team attempts to start the engine, but encounters electrical issues with the starter wiring. After some troubleshooting and a few hammer taps, they manage to turn it over. With a little fresh gas and starting fluid, the engine miraculously fires up and even starts to idle, although the leaking fuel pump needs replacement.
Watching this thing come back to life is a joy, and definitely satisfying for both Olds fans and car enthusiasts in general. Check out the full video right here:

The Olds 442 was one of the best cars ever made. I always said that Olds had the best overall quality of all the GM brands. I wish they were still around
