SAIC-GM has just officially launched the 2025 Buick Regal in China, ushering in the second model year of the refreshed sedan that restores the model’s previous front end design.
General Motors’ China joint venture launched the 2025 Buick Regal sedan lineup in the Asian country’s domestic market with some design and configuration tweaks from the original version of the refreshed model launched locally in the second half of 2023. Undoubtedly, the most striking thing about the styling tweaks is that the 2025 Regal brings back the previous front fascia that the model had with the relaunch of the GS version based on customer demand.
While it retains the brand’s latest Pure Design-inspired front end as standard trim, the refreshed 2025 Buick Regal brings back the previous front-end design with some minor aesthetic tweaks, giving a new option to customers who didn’t like the 2024 model year’s appearance. Notably, the 2025 Regal’s range-topping GS variant restores the previous grille format, while sporting Buick’s latest logo and a redesigned bumper.
SAIC-GM says the updated 2025 Buick Regal’s aesthetic update comes “in response to customers’ love for the Regal GS,” so it has decided to bring back the previous front-end design by introducing a new GS version that hasn’t existed since the arrival of the last refreshed model. The 2025 Regal GS receives a redesigned bumper, a blacked-out grille, and new moldings that give it an exclusive design based on what Buick China calls “the most beautiful Regal.”
In fact, the brand has decided to turn the 2025 Buick Regal GS’s front fascia into a kit that will be offered for purchase by owners of 2024 and later Regal units as an upgrade. The company reported that interested customers will be able to purchase and install the custom styling kit for their older sixth-generation Regals at the brand’s dealers starting in the second quarter of this year.
The refreshed 2025 Buick Regal is now available for sale across Buick’s official dealer network in China, the only country in the world where the brand’s midsize sedan is still manufactured and sold. The 2025 Regal retains the powertrain and equipment configuration of the previous model, and three trim levels are now offered, including the existing Premium and Enjoy plus the new GS. Here are the introductory prices:
- 2025 Regal Premium 25T: 106,900 yuan (about $14,680 USD at the current exchange rate)
- 2025 Regal Enjoy 28T: 123,900 yuan ($17,050 USD)
- 2025 Regal GS 28T: 123,900 yuan ($17,050 USD)

a generic car, the lower bumoer irritates me as well as chrome frame only at side window
That’s a good looking sedan. Infotainment could be modernized. It’s a shame that it is not being built in and for the U.S. market.
No one would buy it. Americans for some reason won’t drive a sedan unless there’s a Japanese or Korean badge on it; whether it is reliable or attractive is irrelevant.
It’s a nice looking car, especially with the original classy grille.
Well I’m glad SOMEBODY is getting what they want out of Barra’s gm. I just wish it were Americans… you remember us? The ancestral HOME of Buick and GM?
But isn’t the US getting what they want? Trucks and SUV’s? They don’t buy cars, so why make them for the US market?
Actually US buyers do buy cars, it’s just that they buy them from companies like Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Kia, Hyundai, VW, Honda, Toyota…. GM seems to be actively exiting the car market as they had an excellent car to sell in the Malibu. Even without updates or promotions in its final year (when GM was closing it down) it still sold 117K units in 2024 which was an increase of around 20% from 2023. These numbers demonstrate that US buyers will buy GM cars if they are available.
Don’t know where your info is from but the Malibu has had declining sales consistently since 2016 with the exception of 2022 (after Covid).
Sales declined because GM’s advertising budget for sedans is very close to zero, considering the Malibu received practically no updates, it still sold well, had it had a larger advertising budget and more updates, sales would be double.
According to “CarFigures”:
How many Malibu did Chevrolet sell in 2024?
Chevrolet sold 117,319 Malibu in 2024. In 2023, Chevrolet sold 97,061 Malibu. They sold 20,258 more units in 2024 compared to 2023 with a percent gain of 20.87% YoY.
Comparing 1 year with a moderate increase in sales to an 8 year downward trend. Brilliant move. Moron.
Good. The current Buick front end is hideous, no one likes it and it should NEVER have been green-lighted. Show car styling doesn’t always translate into production.
Yes, it looked like Toyota’s Billy Big Mouth Bass grille treatment. Available in “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” and “Take Me to the River.”
Am I understanding the prices correct? They start at $14-$17K US dollars? Is there some extreme add ons that jack up the price or are they really that low cost?
Makes me SICK! I was a Buick Pontiac dealer for twenty five years. Pontiac is gone and you can’t but a Buick automobile in the US. Only SUVs. But GM has crawled completely in bed with China….this Regal is a great looking car and the two tone Buick featured here while back was fabulous! And never ever in my career did GM ever bring anything back by “customer demand”. China must have Mary by the short hairs.
She thinks China is a growth market, the United States not so much. That’s why we have Buick (such as it is here) and not Pontiac, which was outselling the tri-shield make in North America.
If they built a descent sporty sedan with AWD, it would be a growth market. I have an Audi A3 and a Kia Stinger. Both fun to drive and reasonably fuel efficient. I would consider a Buick if the front end looked like the 2025 Regal and not the current tadpole face their pushing here. It’s not that sedans don’t sell, its that GM sedans don’t sell. GM get a clue about driving dynamics and power to weight ratio. I don’t need a CTS-V but don’t want an anemic 3-cyl with a CVT. I have three driving age daughters (17-22) who don’t want a SUV. The 13 year old wants a Jeep.
make it here i have 2019 now its a great car could use some more upgrades now but I’d buy it right now if Buick build it! Let’s go back to when better cars are made BUICK will build them!!!!!
Yes, we need the US version built right here in the USA. If we need to fire Mary to get it done, then let’s do it! And build a new Camaro too. There’s way too many SUVs, not enough cars. And put a decent sized V6 in there too! Pissy assed turbo 1.5 liter engines just don’t cut it. No EVs please!
If only GM would put that classic front end treatment on the new Enclave, they would have an excellent looking SUV. The “bottom feeder” look across the product line is a complete turnoff for many of us!
The black bottom feeder grille looks so cheap as do the base dull boring grey wheels on the current Enclave. They can do much better!
Now that looks way better. See what happens when a company listens to the customers who don’t like what they have? Why doesn’t that work in the US? If this was happening in the US, GM/Buick would just leave that hideous front end on and let the sales go down. Then they would say: See, sedans don’t sell so we are killing it.
Is this the only time one of the “Big 3” has reverted back to a previous design? I bet it is!
I’m all for a GS option to make things sportier and more powerful, but that newly-reinstated grille looks very conservative, like it was from 2005.
I have a 2016 Malibu 2.0 turbo, great car. I l really liked the Regal and the hatch utility the Malibu was missing. It’s amazing how much better the 2025 Regal looks with the older style front fascia. I would definitely buy one if it were available for sale in the USA. Most manufacturers make their vehicles for sale globally, the Envision comes to mind. I had a 2021 ST and it was more bang for your buck than the Cadillac XT4. At some point consumers will get tired of trucks and SUV’s, they have very little style and are heavier and less fuel efficient. I’m concerned GM put all their eggs in that basket and is vulnerable to market shifts away from trucks. If GM just made one world class car that middle class Americans could afford they could compete. When GM consolidated they should be able to easily make that a reality.
If we can’t buy it here, I’m not interested.
How can I receive brouchures of the Buicks made in China and information on promotional Buicks (I am a Buick and automobile enthusiast)?
Many thanks,
I would kill to have a nice, American sedan. I own a 22 Spark, would have gotten a Malibu if it wasn’t such a dog. Even with a turbo, it was lacking in power.
Now of those were the prices when they sold in the US they would have no prob selling them. The top trim level is less than 20k wtf!? The GS while it has a V6 was $45k. While compared to the competition it was priced well. BUT I guarantee these would have sold way better if they sold them at these kinda prices or slightly more.
GM needs to put similar faces on the Encore GX, Envista, and Enclave sold here in the USA, too. The current front ends of all three models look downright hideous.
The USA needs sedans if this was assembled and sold in in the states and advertised and priced correctly the would sell ..
Build and sell this in the US!
(Would REALLY like a V6 LaCrosse version of this, but would still take this over any of their current 4cyl CUVs.)
Gee – I’m glad our Chinese overlords get good-looking Buick Regals for under $15k. Shine your shoes, massa?
GM continues to profit from Opel-designed product long after they unceremoniously sold off the entire Opel / Vauxhall division.😡
