This Garage-Built 1968 Chevy Camaro Was Built To Handle: Video

Like any red-blooded enthusiast, we love high-horsepower builds with insane acceleration potential, but there’s something special about a muscle car that can handle. And that’s exactly what we have here – an LS3-powered 1968 Chevy Camaro built specifically for the track. Now, we’re getting an inside look at this impressive build thanks to the following feature video.

Coming to us from the folks at AutotopiaLA, this track-ready Chevy Camaro belongs to Bryan, a Navy veteran who has owned the car since 2018. The Camaro has been in his family since the early ‘70s and was previously a drag racer built by his father. Over time, Bryan transformed it with a focus on handling, braking, and reliability, doing most of the work himself (except for the welding).

Under the hood, the car is powered by a built LS3 engine featuring Eagle rods, CP pistons, and Frankenstein heads, custom-tuned to produce 505 horsepower at the wheels. It is paired with a T56 Magnum manual transmission and runs on E85 fuel with a flex-fuel sensor. The car retains its original 12-bolt rear end, but it has been reinforced with upgraded axles to improve overall durability.

The braking system is another standout feature, using C7 Corvette rear brakes and massive C7 Z06 front brakes, complemented by homemade brake cooling ducts that help prevent brake fade on the track. The suspension is fully upgraded with coilovers and Ridetech components, and the car’s weight distribution is measured at 51/49 front-to-rear. The 18-inch Forgeline wheels are wrapped in 275 and 265-width tires, providing excellent grip. Despite retaining the original subframe, the Camaro weighs just under 3,000 pounds.

Bryan’s Camaro is a true driver’s car, with no traction control, no ABS, and manual brakes. He regularly tracks the car and drives it long distances, putting over 3,000 miles of track use on it.
