The record’s just been broken for the highest sale price on a GMC Typhoon in Bring a Trailer’s history. This clean, low-mile, one-owner, unmodified 1993 GMC Typhoon in a rare color just sold for a whopping $226,000.
This is by far the most expensive GMC Typhoon ever sold on Bring a Trailer. The only other one with a six-digit price tag was a black one with less than 300 miles on it that sold for $175,000 in 2022. Other than those outliers, really clean Typhoon auctions typically have results around the $40k-50k mark.
For some well-heeled GMC SUV enthusiast, this was the perfect Typhoon. Its through-the-roof value was driven by a few factors. For starters, it has less than 700 miles on the clock. It’s also in the rare Apple Red color, which the listing says makes it just one of 77 of its kind for the 1993 model year. It just might be the cleanest red Typhoon in existence. Additionally, the Carfax vehicle history report confirms that it’s a one-owner car.
The highlight of the GMC Typhoon is its turbocharged 4.3L V6 LB4 engine, rated at 280 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. It was essentially the Jimmy-based SUV version of the Sonoma-based GMC Syclone. The high-performance SUV was a novel idea back in the early 1990s, and the Typhoon was one of the first SUVs from a mainstream brand tuned for street performance from the factory.
In addition to the engine upgrade, the GMC Typhoon’s revisions compared to a regular Jimmy include an aerodynamic body kit, 16-inch turbine-style aluminum wheels, and a self-leveling rear suspension system.
Once the bidding on this SUV got to the $90k mark, it entered a three-way bidding war between users BPTX, ottocarclub, and MandO Motorsports. Ottocarclub’s highest bid was $163k and MandO Motorsports went as high as $225k before ceding victory to BPTX at the $226k sale price.
Naturally, some Bring a Trailer commenters made speculative accusations that this is money laundering rather than a legitimate car purchase. However, many users recognized this sale as someone willing to pay big money for such a rare and increasingly collectible performance SUV.

Cool ride!
It is, but there’s an extra zero at the end of the price.
