The 2024 Chevy Traverse, the 2025 Chevy Traverse and the 2025 Chevy Equinox crossovers are included in a new Service Update from GM related to a fix for the Electronic Brake Control Module.
The condition causes the Electronic Brake Control Module to perform one of its functions – predicting brake pad wear as part of its brake pad calibration – incorrectly, according to GM Service Update number N242471431.
The fix for this issue with Chevy Traverse and Chevy Equinox units is to update the software of the Electronic Brake Control Module. No physical parts or components are needed to remedy the issue. GM instructs dealership service personnel to apply the update and reprogramming both to customer vehicles brought to the dealer and to affected Chevy Traverse and Equinox units currently in inventory.
The update to the brake control module software can be carried out in one of two ways. It can be handled at the dealership directly, or it can be downloaded as an over-the-air (OTA) update. The fix is available until the end of the period covered by the affected crossover’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty.
As a reminder, the 2024 Traverse ushered in the all-new third generation of the Bow Tie crossover nameplate. The 2025 Traverse introduces some significant changes to follow up on this, including the return of the High Country trim level, the elimination of the LS trim – and a reduction in standard safety features.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Chevy Equinox spearheads the arrival of the crossover’s fourth generation, featuring all-new truck-inspired styling, expanded exterior dimensions including greater width, length, and wheelbase, and the characteristic Bow Tie shark-fin C pillar. It also equips a strong assortment of safety features, including but not limited to Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, and Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure.
The Chevy Traverse cradles the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 gasoline engine generating 328 horsepower and 326 pound-feet of torque under the hood and rides on the GM C1-2 platform. The 2025 Equinox features the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine developing 175 horsepower and either 184 pound-feet of torque with FWD or 203 pound-feet of torque with AWD.
The Traverse is produced at the GM Lansing Delta plant in Michigan, while the Equinox rolls off the assembly line at the GM San Luis Potosà plant in Mexico.

Still ANOTHER reason I have not bought a new vehicle since 2008. Who NEEDS, or wants to PAY for, or wants problems from, software control over basic vehicle functions?? So long as I have functional anti-lock brakes, I’m good! Have never had a problem with the anti-lock brakes in any of my pre-2010 vehicles. Like the real gauges, V8 engines and 4-speed automatic transmissions, AC/heat controls, radio controls, door locks and ignition switches using REAL KEYS, exterior and interior lights, and so on, they just WORK. Converting all of those things to “software-control modules” has raised the price of the vehicles and LOWERED their reliability. (This article is “Exhibit A” of that.)
