The 2024 Chevy Colorado and 2024 GMC Canyon pickup trucks are included in new service bulletins from General Motors, which describe how certain units of both models need the left and right front shock rods replaced.
According to Service Update numbers N242482640 and N242482641, some Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks from the 2024 model year were produced with left and/or right front shock rods that were assembled with a higher torque specification than necessary.
Excessive torque to the shock rod can cause damage to the component over time along with loosening of critical bolts and other issues. GM has instructed its dealerships to replace any left and right front shock rods on the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks affected by this issue. The repair is offered free of charge to owners through the end of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.
The front shock rods and nuts must both be replaced. The fix should also be applied to 2024 Colorado and Canyon units currently unsold in dealership inventory. The General instructs dealers not to order shock rod replacements unless an affected unit is actually present, because supply of the parts is limited.
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Colorado was motivated by two powerplant options. These included the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L2R gasoline engine developing 237 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque from 1,200 to 4,000 rpm, and the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine cranking out 310 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 430 pound-feet of torque at 3,000 rpm.
The GMC Canyon, meanwhile, ran the L3B engine exclusively. The GM eight-speed automatic transmission provided cog swaps to both models. Meanwhile, both offered rear-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) drivetrains as standard or optional depending on trim level.
Under the skin, both midsize pickup truck models ride on the updated GMT 31XX platform. Production of both models took place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri. Both were also subject to a stop-sale order from GM early last year because of a software issue.

These things continue to be a quality DISASTER. Even CR agrees. Look at the pickup rankings. Ratings of these two are horrendous.
CR agrees, heh.
I won’t apologize for GM, but CR is just ever so slightly biased. Give an imported pickup the same problems and CR would still make it a recommended buy.
And yet CR has ranked the belle of the ball Toyota Tacoma behind the Ridgeline, Ranger, Frontier, Gladiator, Canyon, and Colorado.
My 2022 SR5 Tacoma was highly rated by CR (not many features to go bad, however it seemed like everything was bad in that truck). I was extremely disappointed, it was the poorest quality vehicle I had ever drove….I purchased a new loaded up Z71 Colorado it now has 19,000 miles on it and it’s been perfect. What exactly is CR checking for? Because quality, ride, fuel efficiency, dependability and ergonomics are all way better in my Colorado.
Glad I just bought a quality used 2021 Canyon. Absolutely zero issues with previous generation.
I still love my ZR2. BUT, battery required replacement, forward looking camera died and had a “will not run condition” where “a wire was broken and repaired to the in tank fuel pump?????” What’s next??
How do we know if our vehicle is affected by Service Update numbers N242482640 and N242482641? Do we just wait for possible recall details from GM or the Dealer?
call your dealer and have them run your VIN. I do not think “recall notices” will be sent out.
Thats losing with Mediocrity.
I can’t wait until my Canyon is paid off. Every other week it seems like there is something wrong with these trucks. GM has gone way down hill. A RAM will be my next truck!
so they are not replacing the shock, just the rod and bolts?
Do they take the shock apart?
My 2024 AT4 has been flawless
