Poll: How Do You Like The Chevy Silverado And GMC Sierra Seats?

No matter the type of vehicle or body style in question, seat comfort plays a major role in the overall driving experience. Whether it’s navigating long highway drives or just a short daily commute, a well-designed seat can significantly enhance (or detract from) passenger comfort, even if the ride quality is otherwise buttery smooth. Which brings us to ask – how do you feel about the seats in your Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck?

Of course, comfort is subjective, but patterns in owner feedback can indicate whether or not something more systemic is going on. For now, GM offers a wide variety of seating configurations across the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra lineups, including notable differences within the trim levels themselves. For this poll, we’re considering both the light-duty 1500 models and the heavy-duty HD models.

Seating configurations include a 40/20/20 split bench, bucket seats, and a range of adjustability options. Depending on the trim, these trucks can be equipped with four-way manual adjustment, 10-way or 12-way power adjustment, or even 16-way power seats with massage functionality on higher-end variants.

Material selection also varies widely across the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra lineup, with options such as vinyl, traditional cloth, perforated leather, and full grain leather on offer. Naturally, trim-level and package choices affect what’s available in each model. Interior color schemes can also play a role in how seats are perceived, from the standard Jet Black to premium selections like Dark Walnut, Obsidian Rush, Alpine Umber, and Gideon.

With so many variables in play, we’re turning the question over to you: Are your Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra seats too soft? Too firm? Or just right? Cast your vote in the poll below and let us know how your GM truck measures up when it comes to backside comfort.

  1. My 2019 T1 high country seats sucked!!! My 2018 Denali K2 trucks seats are way better. Hopefully the new trucks take a book out of the 2002 to 2006 trucks and suvs. Those seats were comfy. Leather sucked in them but were comfy like couches
Even my 1998 C/K seats are comfortable

    1. Sucks?
You must have a rare aftermarket Driver “Entertainment” option installed in the those seats.

  2. Not the color.

  3. Seems Ok, you can seat… anyway is a truck Pickup, not a comfortable sedan, it is a car for work so OK… once when an ex uncle went to his farm, had to seat at rear on the wheelhouse, so that was really uncomfortable.

  4. Slightly softer seats, especially in the higher end trims would be appreciated. I understand there is a fine line where if you make them too soft they have a higher chance of cracking, but I think there is some room to make them softer. Also, as has been said over and over, more color options! I also think gm is behind on the stitching options on higher end trims. Jumping from an LT to LTZ should at least upgrade the stitching and add a color option or two. High Country should have plush seats with unique stitching that is found other places in the cab (door panel, center counsel, etc.).

  5. Every generation of GM truck has worse seats than the prior going back to the 90’s. Remember how comfortable 6 inches of seat foam was vs today’s 2? The old cloth was some tough stuff as well. My current Sierra has fake leather that requires a memory foam pad so I can drive it daily without back pain. Seat adjustment has also been limited, I can no longer get the desired tilt that I find comfortable. The price of today’s base truck should have a very durable/comfortable seat, the premium trims should be amazing. Sadly the Ram mid level truck has a much better seat.

  6. Maybe do a article about the Science and Technology thru the generations trucks designs GM has done. Seats from 20 to 30 years ago were getting plush and very soft. It was easier for people to fall asleep while driving. Then GM started to make seats that did take away from the softness and comfort, to a more anti-fatigued design.

    1. Are you advocating for uncomfortable seating to keep people awake?

  7. The seats are hard! I have a 2019 Sierra SLT Texas Addition. My hips hurt after a 30 minute drive. I can over look the hard shift, figured out how to get around that, but the seats just don’t do it. I understand Ram seats are very comfortable. Please work on the seats, there very uncomfortable.

  8. They suck. They need more foam to make it comfortable to drive long trips. My 2008 Silverado seats are better than these. I own a 20008, 2015, and 2018 Silverado. I also own a 2024 Tahoe High Country. All of my Silverado’s are Crew Cab LTZ Z-71 4 x 4. All of the vehicles have a 6.2 with the exception of the 2008 which has a 6.0.

  9. It is nearly impossible to create seats for everyone. It’s no different than mattresses or pillows. How would one suggest that auto manufacturers make seats to “Fit” everyone?
I have a 70′ C20 with a couch for a seat. I love it in that truck but I would not want it in a daily driver. I believe the ergonomics behind most vehicle design defaults to someone 5’8″ and roughly 170 lbs. I have always preferred GM seats (especially Trucks) to anyone else’s but I am 5’8″ and 170lbs. True story.

  10. Seats are to firm in my 2024 Silverado LT. They are an improvement over my 2020 Colorado. My son has a 2018 f-150 much better seats.

  11. Nothing beats the cloth seats in the 1994 to 2002 Dodge Ram trucks. I used to drive 60k+ miles per year and those seats were great. You could sit all day without squirming around

  12. The seats are uncomfortable and the color choices on the 25 High Country is just 4 colors none of which I like.

  13. I have a 2020 gmc Sierra and the seat is to firm and narrow.I have had gm my whole life and they keep getting worse as the years go on.I bought a used f150 for my longer drives the seats are way better.

  14. I’m my 2023 LTZ these seats SUCK..VERY STIFF And color choices are Black ,or Black Or dark Gray.Makes the interior of this truck feel like a dark cave.
Look at Dodge Ram seats , very nice..I cant drive 40 miles without something getting sore.
I had plenty of GM pickups, and all the seats were crap..Ford has extreamly great seats.Next truck will be a F150…

  15. I compared against the Sierra and Tundra when I bought my F-150.

One of the biggest issues with both, but more so GM, was the seats. The Tundra seats weren’t noticeable terrible right off the bat, but after driving for a bit you realize they aren’t great. The GM truck seats are immediately and obviously bad. Way too firm and flat. Ford’s seats are dramatically better – I can drive 5+ hours straight and still be super comfortable.

Lots of manufacturers fall short on seats, it isn’t just GM. My wife’s Mazda seats are pretty bad too, and a park bench would be more comfortable than the seats in a friend’s Subaru.

  16. My 03’ GMC 2500 was way more comfortable than my 16’ 2500 Denali or my 22’ 1500 SLT. Both are just too hard and makes my sciatica hurt within an hours drive time.

  17. Like others have said, while material and fit/finish has gotten consistently better each truck generation, seat comfort has gotten worse. The 01-06 GMT800 platform had the best seats, wide, squishy, and a cushion that I’d guess has at least double the thickness of foam.

Another thing I find odd, Im 6’5″, every generation gets my head closer to the roof. The seat doesn’t go down as far as it used to, I went from a 2006 Silverado to a 2011 Silverado LTZ, and then back to a 2004 Silverado because of the seats, then a 2017 Sierra, and currently in a 2021 Sierra LTZ. All Have tons, the 2021 I can’t wear a hat inside the cab because it will touch the headliner.

  18. The seats in my 2023 Silverado 1500 are comfortable. The reason I won’t buy a GM product is the fact that I’m expected to pay a monthly extortion fee to use the equipment that I paid for.

  19. I have a 2024 LTZ and the hardness of the seats are the worst part of the truck. As a prior Ram owner they have Chevy beat on comfort.

  20. My dad’s 2500 Denali has fine seats in the front, but the rear passenger seats may as well not be cushioned at all. They’re horrible.

  21. 2025 Silverado LTZ bucket leather……pleather. Very hard compared to my other vehicles and small for the size truck. Ram has the largest, Tundra 2 nd, Ford is softest. I prefer the Silverado but the seats are way too hard.

  22. Honest feedback is always appreciated when manufacturing any product. I retired going on 7 years next month from a test company that tested seating from 3 manufactures. Lear which GM purchases from are not my top-level choice. Adient which provides seats for Ford and Toyota are by far better from a comfort standpoint. Agree with prior feedback reply’s setting in a seat for long periods is the real test of comfort. Although after long break-in 50-80K of use the Lear seats are not to bad after finding the sweet spot of adjustment can be frustrating. I had to ask help from my physical therapist. My 2014 K2XX after 11 years 75K of miles finally seems on par.

  23. Offer mere seat color combinations other than just black / with Kalahari accents in the 2025 GMC AT4. I hate black. To me black is basic. I had a 2019 GMC SLT 1500 with a two tone leather brown and grey color with the wood trim accents. Made the truck look so much nicer but the hardness of the seats sucked. They killed my back. Drive a Ford F150 XLT while mine was in repair shop. What a night and day difference in seat comfort. Ford was way better

  24. Seating and ergonomics of my 2024 AT4 are terrible. Seats are short in the base, not enough adjustments for leg support and nowhere to put your let foot because some engineers thought a dead peddle was necessary in a full size truck. The previous generation was great.

  25. As others say, they are hard. And yet, I find my 2022 Silverado seats to be comfortable and nicely supportive of my back.

  26. With a few exceptions GM hasn’t had decent seats since 1988. This survey means they are beginning to figure it out why did it take so long?

  27. I have a 13 Tahoe LT and just purchased a 25 Z71 Tahoe, The 13 seats are way more comfortable than the 25, the 25 feel like they have no padding and they have no adjustable lumbar in the bottom seat , Like my 13 Tahoe … SAD …

  28. Literally nobody thinks they are too soft. The T1 (2019-present) seats are well known for being too hard. I don’t know what GM engineers were drinking when they designed them or possible what dumb cost cutting measure the team agreed on.

  29. Too firm and they hurt the back of my legs. Went for a test drive today with the intention of taking home a new 2025 sierra 1500 eco diesel. Pearl white, this thing was very sharp. Then I sat in it and drove it down the road. What a complete disappointment. Those seats are horrible! Had to pass. Going to check out an f150. I hear dodge has a nice seat but yuck. I’d rather walk
