The popular 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 remains one of the chief workhorses of the Bow Tie lineup, and represents the second-to-last model year before the likely 2027 Silverado advent of the pickup’s fifth generation. If you’ve been wondering how much the 2025 truck can haul, here is GM Authority‘s full guide to its towing capacity.
First of all, let’s look at the quartet of 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 engines that ultimately determine how much the truck can tow. These are the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine developing 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine developing 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine developing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine developing 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque.
One of these engines, the L3B powerplant, is paired with the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, with the other three linked to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission. Axle ratio is 3.23, 3.42 or 3.73 depending on configuration, while 2WD and 4WD are offered.
Now that we have a grasp of the basics, let’s look at the specific towing figures for the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500:

As these tables highlight, the 2025 Silverado 1500 with a ball hitch can tow a maximum of 13,300 pounds with the turbodiesel LZ0 engine, 2WD, and the Crew Cab Short Bed configuration paired with the optional Max Trailering Package (RPO code NHT). For gooseneck trailers, peak load is 10,300 pounds with the V8 L84 engine with 2WD or 4WD and the same trailering package.
When compared to 2024 Silverado towing capacities, quite a few combinations have gained around 100 pounds of hauling, though several other changes are also present. Notably, the 6.2L V8 L87 engine is no longer available to order in conjunction with the Double Cab configuration.
As a reminder, the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 continues to be underpinned by the GM T1 platform under the sheet metal. Production of the truck takes place at three facilities, including the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada and the GM Silao plant in Mexico.
Comment
It really upsets me that they force 4 wheel drive on you only to jack up the profits and makes the truck so tall the bed is next to worthless as a working tool. Plus climbing into the cab is way too much work for anyone 55 plus. I have a 06 Silverado with 220,000 miles. I’d really love to get a new one but I don’t like how tall they are. Yes there are running boards and built in steps, and a great tailgate but these are only work arounds for a poor design. Just build me a 2 wheel drive, crew cab, standard bed with a LZ0 and a heads up display. Please please. I’d love to talk to someone in the design department about this.
