Back when the T1-generation GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup trucks were revealed, some likened the trucks’ dual exhaust outlets to HDMI ports on TVs and other media devices. Indeed, the overall shape and form factor of the exhaust tips on these models bears a striking resemblance to HDMI ports. Now, roughly seven years later, liking the dual Sierra or Silverado exhaust outlets to HDMI ports has become relatively commonplace among owners and enthusiasts, so much so that there’s now stickers sold on Amazon to place on the rear bumper, above the exhaust.
A sticker package sold on Amazon is as mainstream as it gets these days. Heck, the stickers are even available in different sizes.
But not everyone is a fan of the HDMI-shaped finishers, with aftermarket exhaust firms offering alternatives such as as quad-tipped configuration.
Meanwhile, the next-gen 2027 Sierra and 2027 Silverado exhaust will have a different finisher from the one used currently. The next-gen trucks, expected for the 2027 model year, will feature a new quad-tipped setup reminiscent to that first introduced on the C8 Corvette Stingray. This configuration has since made it to the 2024 Traverse, 2025 Tahoe, and 2025 Suburban, among their platform mates from GMC (Acadia, Yukon, Yukon XL, respectively).
Our spies recently caught a 2027 Silverado prototype undergoing testing with these tips.

I hate these exhaust tips. I bought the matte black ones from GM. Looks a little better cause they are harder to see. I wanted one tail pipe coming out the rear but I couldn’t find it with a 3.0 in 2022. I do like the quad tips, just like like my ZL1.
Personally, I do like the HDMI-shaped outlets. They’re unique and functional. I’ll need to get the matte black ones for my Sierra to go along with the chrome delete theme. Ironically, GM offers matte black ones for the Silverado but not the Sierra… but that’s a different story.
Alex, I was kind of in the same boat. My truck came with the dark essentials package. Everything was black except for the Z71 logos and exhaust tips. I quickly swapped out the logo and exhaust tips. I wasn’t sure why they did that, or why the dealer built it like that.
Some of the dark essentials or sport packages seem to get half way there with their attention to detail. Logos and exhaust tips couldn’t cost much more and I’m sure the average consumer would be willing to pay another hundred or two to get it all. The midnight edition on the high country seems to do it best, I just wish the black accents and black chrome were available with more option packages or with other colors as a dark essentials group.
This article is only 6 years late, they were memed the instant the trucks came out
There are levels to these things. Stickers were definitely not being sold on eBay or amazon when these trucks came out.
i like the “HDMI” tips. I have aftermarket exhaust, which is louder, so i wanted to keep the factory tips so the exhaust does not “stand out” as being modified. But thats just me. I Like the stock look, without the stock sound.
Single exhaust, like on my 2500, please. It looks like a truck, because it does truck things — it’s not a sports car.
Most of these “trucks” just drive the kids around to soccer practice or grocery runs. My wife’s Buick Encore works perfectly fine for that stuff, thank you very much. I guess I’m comfortable enough in my masculinity that I don’t need to be seen rockin’ the 2500 everywhere I go.
Just make trucks look like trucks. Leave the sporty BS to RAM, as that’s their demographic anyway. They’re like the rice-burners of trucks.
Lots of opinion and conjecture but little actual fact there.
Everyone is doing dual exhaust on 150/1500 trucks from the factory because that’s obviously what the demos want, regardless of what the GMA comment section says.
Honestly, I wish they would just dump them all like ZR2 under the rear bumper, it makes the most sense. They look silly on a truck (too car like) and for those that leave the pavement are easily damaged. The quad tips look even worse like it is trying to mimic a Corvette or Camaro.
I converted to the flowmaster exhaust. It puts two black pipes on each side where the old exhaust was. Looks and sounds fantastic.
Looks more like a micro USB to me
