A recent viral video shows a GMC Savana driver making an illegal pass around a school bus before losing control and running off the road.
The video appears as though it was captured by a pair of security cameras. As the clip gets under way, we see a snow-lined two-lane road, with a thin layer of snow blanketing the shoulders. The road, however, looks clear and dry. The sky is overcast, but overall, visibility looks good.
We then see a school bus making its way down the road. The video looks as though it is sped up, with the entire clip elapsing only eight seconds.
As the school bus slows down, we see the flashing red lights on the roof activate. The school bus doors facing the road shoulder start to open.
Suddenly, we see a white GMC Savana speeding down the road directly at the school bus. Seemingly at the last moment, the GMC Savana driver dives onto the road shoulder, narrowly missing the stationary school bus. Luckily, there aren’t any kids getting out of the bus.
The GMC Savana van hits the muddy shoulder at a high rate of speed, and as the camera view switches, we see the driver try to get back on the two-lane road. As they do so, the rear end of the Savana starts to slide, and suddenly, it’s headed towards traffic in the other lane.
Miraculously, the Savana regains traction, and in a pendulum motion, clips an adjacent moving van before ricocheting back off the road and onto the shoulder. The out of control GMC Savana continues perpendicular to the road through a fence.
It’s not clear if the GMC Savana driver was simply not paying attention and noticed the school bus at the last moment, or if drugs or alcohol were involved, or if the driver simply tried to pass the bus intentionally in a high-speed maneuver. Either way, this video demands some sort of explanation from the Savana driver.

Actually one student WAS exiting the school bus, but the driver grabbed her coat hood and yanked her back when he saw van in mirror narrowly preventing her death in front of her father’s automotive business. Much regional news coverage when this happened

What a dope.
This article leaves the reader with more questions than answers. Was there an arrest? Is the van driver in jail awaiting disposition? Thank goodness for the observant bus driver. His / her actions avoided a real catastrophe.
That van was stolen. Either that or the driver was as high as a kite. You can see it speeding down the road from behind and it looks like he never even tried to slow down. I hope they caught him and lock him up.
It was just going too fast. Obviously not as fast as it looks in the stupid video at about double speed.
