GM To Fix 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500, Silverado HD Side Floor Panel Seam Leak

Water leaking through the side floor panel seam on certain 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2025 Chevy Silverado HD trucks will now be addressed by a fix described in a new Service Update from The General.

GM Service Update number N242480200 says that the fix for 2025 Chevy Silverado pickups will be available free of charge through the end of each truck’s New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

The automaker instructs dealership service personnel to apply the fix to 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 and Silverado HD units that return to the dealer for any reason, or are currently in dealership inventory. The remedy consists of applying seam sealer to the right (passenger side) front side floor panel seam if inspection reveals it was only partially installed during production.

The 2025 Silverado is expected to be the second to last model year for the pickup’s fourth generation, as the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado should debut the fifth generation of the truck. GM Authority explores some of the exclusive details we know about the upcoming changes and updates arriving with the next-gen vehicle.

Engines for the 2025 Chevy Silverado 1500 include four powerplants, namely the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline TurboMax engine, the naturally aspirated 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax. The 2025 Silverado HD utilizes the 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine and the 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax engine.

Drivetrains include two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The base L3B engine of the Silverado 1500 is mated to the GM eight-speed automatic, while the 1500’s other three engines and both Silverado HD powerplants are paired with the GM 10-speed automatic transmission to send power to the pavement.

As a reminder, the Chevy Silverado 1500 rides on the GM T1 platform under the body panels, while it rolls off the assembly line at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, the GM Oshawa plant in Canada and the GM Silao plant in Mexico. The Silverado HD is underpinned by a more capable variant of the same platform, with production occurring at the GM Oshawa plant in Canada and the GM Flint plant in Michigan.

  1. More inadequate seam welds on GM trucks, I wouldn’t plan to keep these trucks long term they will fall apart as they age and corrode through normal use. These low quality welds and and ultra thin panels won’t last.

  3. Should be warranted forever. Gm should not be allowed to state repairs will be done until warranty ends. If problems are known they should be repaired , not telling the customer u missed the time frame by a few months. They should also be sending out notices on issues.

    1. Why would gm warranty anything past that date? It keeps the gm service departments in busine$$. Case in point, my 2016 gmc 2500hd LML duramax CP4 fuel pump. I’m waiting for it to destroy itself so I pay for it myself. As in, the tow bill to the junk yard.
