Below, we provide Honda Ridgeline sales for informational purposes, since the model straddles the midsize and full-size pickup truck segments. This quarter, it placed ahead of the Canyon and Gladiator.

The midsize mainstream pickup truck segment expanded 47 percent to 143,446 units in Q4 2024, meaning sales of GM models on a combined basis significantly outperformed the segment average.
The GM Authority Take
Sales of both the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon posted very healthy gains not only during Q4 2024 but also for the 2024 calendar year, as both models have navigated a generational changeover. But the Toyota Tacoma worked through that as well, and has come roaring back to re-establish dominance in the midsize truck space via a 46 percent segment share compared to the combined 27 percent share for GM’s pickups, moving over 27K more units.
So while The General has upped its game in the midsize truck space to better compete against the perennially best-selling Tacoma, closing the gap is certainly no easy task. The good news is that the Colorado and Canyon together saw a higher growth rate (149 percent) than the Tacoma (20 percent) during Q4 2024.
It’s also worth noting that The Blue Oval also sells the unibody Ford Maverick compact pickup, which outsells the midsize Ranger and for which The General has no answer. Maverick sales may be cannibalizing those of the Ranger, and even probably taking some from other midsizers like the Colorado and Canyon.

Meanwhile, Ram wants to get back into the growing midsize truck market after exiting it in 2011 and toying with entering it again only to cancel plans in 2021.
Above, we showed sales of the Honda Ridgeline unibody pickup, which is bigger than a midsizer but smaller than a full-size truck. Though it sales volume is low, it’s likely picking off sales from any of these segments. In the end, buyers don’t care if a certain model neatly fits into a compact, midsize, or full-size segment, but purchase what meets their needs and tastes, while fitting into their budget. Regardless of their choice, the truck market in general remains very lucrative, with every major automaker competing in some form or another to grab a bigger piece of an ever-growing pie.
About Chevrolet Colorado
In May 2023, GM unveiled the all-new 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, the highly capable off-road midsize pickup truck developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). For 2024, the ZR2 Bison is offered as a standalone trim level rather than as a package. In addition to a wealth of standard components from AEV, the 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison also incorporates development input from off-road racing champion Chad Hall and was refined on the Rubicon Trail to boot, adding new features like front and rear jounce control dampers.
The 2024 Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison, incidentally, gets a standard bed-mounted spare, a new launch control feature, and a new Recovery Package. Its arrival means the Chevy Colorado ZR2 Desert Boss Special Edition package hasn’t returned for the 2024 model year, indirectly replaced by the Bison.
Furthermore, among the many changes and updates for the new model year, the 2024 Chevy Colorado drops the 8-inch driver information center, replaced by the 11-inch DIC across the lineup, and drops the mid-level Turbo Plus engine, adopting the GM’s new TurboMax engine branding as part of changes and updates for the 2024 model year. That means the 2024 Colorado will offer just the base L2R engine on WT and LT trim levels and the High Output L3B TurboMax engine on all other trims while optional on the WT and LT. On a related note, here are the towing capacities of the 2024 Colorado.
The 2024 Colorado also offers a new Sports Bar Package and new Off-Road Lighting Package, while Trail Boss and ZR2 trim levels now have the option of a new off-road front bumper package for enhanced off-road capability.
Check out everything that’s new and different for the 2024 Chevy Colorado.
The fastest-turning trim level for the third-generation Colorado is the range-topping ZR2. Here are five changes and improvements we’d like to see for the Bow Tie brand’s midsize pickup truck.
About GMC Canyon
The 2025 Canyon debuts as the third-gen’s third model year featuring a few notable changes, including revised optional packages, more standard features for the Elevation trim level, and new paint options.
All Canyon trims are equipped with the TurboMax turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3BÂ gasoline engine as standard.
Here are the 2025 Canyon payload capacities.

I’m sure it has to do with price and trim . Personally I like the gmc. Nicer finish inside, and available hud. Yes more expensive but nicer. Still has the same off road capabilities as far as i know
I originally wanted the Canyon only because I really wanted HUD and the better interior, however I ended up going with a loaded up all options Z71 Colorado because I really preferred the exterior body panels and grill design over that of the Canyon.
Absolutely love my Canyon
Haha. Not for long. Trump’s tariffs are in effect.
Could the sales numbers be up due to the fact that availability in 23 and 24 was horrible. Production and delivery numbers were poor. I personally waited 6 months the second time I ordered one…add 4 more because of the first order
GM is going to have to put some Americans to work. Trump is not kidding around. When a vehicle has at least 40% foreign parts if not more. I find it a total insult to the American buyer and the factory workers.
The vehicles have to have 51% American parts . Trump Negotiated the deal in 2019 the USMCA.He stated that it was the best deal ever. Now Trump broke his own trade agreement.
Well the new Tacoma in general has not been well received.
I enjoy my canyon more every time I drive it.
