The GM Authority Take

After starting the calendar year with a slight increase in January, GM Mexico sales suffered a single-digit decline in February, reversing the manufacturer’s the year-to-date total into the red. GM lost over 500 units from its bottom line on a year-over-year basis during the second month of the year due to five percent drop experienced by Chevrolet – its most popular brand, which recorded its first sales setback in 2025. Meanwhile, the premium Buick and GMC, plus the luxury Cadillac brand achieved healthy triple-digit increases.

Chevy S10 Max

In February, 15 GM Mexico nameplates saw significant drops in sales volume, including the Chevy S10 Max, Chevy Tracker and Chevy Groove. These three models alone cost the company a significant 1,554 units on a year-over-year basis, driven by the collapse of the S10 Max work truck, which had been the company’s second-best-selling vehicle during the same period last year. Additionally, GM recorded several smaller declines across several crossovers and low-volume cars, adding to the negative results.

Chevy Aveo sedan

On the contrary, a good number of models managed to finish February in the green. For instance, the Chevy Aveo achieved a considerable improvement during the month. The results enable it to consolidate its position as GM’s most popular vehicle in the Mexican market. The Chevy Silverado was also in the green, as was each of the company’s full-size SUVs, which achieved large annual improvements, led by the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade. Additionally, the Chevy Captiva ranked as the second best-selling model both for the month and year-to-date.
