GM Design Team Shows Off Chevy Blazer EV.R Sketches And Clay Model Prep

GM unveiled its Chevy Blazer EV.R all-electric race car concept last month, just a few days prior to the 2025 Daytona 500. Built on the current “Next Gen” chassis underpinning the ICE-based Chevy Camaro NASCAR machines, the Chevy Blazer EV.R looks to be a potential way forward for motorsport in the transition to all-electric powertrains, although when that transition may take place in NASCAR remains to be determined. Nevertheless, GM Design is now giving us a look at the Chevy Blazer EV.R in its early design phase, providing insight into the racing concept’s development.

The majority of the Chevy Blazer EV.R design is based on the production-spec Chevy Blazer EV SS, with proportions that are “lower, wider, and more aggressive” than its road-going counterpart. Naturally, the racing machine also sports a range of dramatic aero enhancements, such as a front splitter, lower-body side sills, a rear diffuser, and a large wing connected to the crossover’s hatch. The race car also incorporates side window netting and an extensive roll cage, while the running gear was swapped out for a set of lightweight racing wheels and Goodyear Eagle race slicks.

GM Design also provided a series of “behind the curtain” photos showcasing a few moments in the clay model development process for the Chevy Blazer EV.R.

“Clay modeling is at the core of what we do,” GM Design writes. “It captures the essence of the production Blazer EV SS and transforms it into a high-performance racing prototype.”

As for the actual machine that was eventually created, the Chevy Blazer EV.R features an all-wheel drivetrain rated at roughly 1,300 horsepower, with a pair of six-phase rear motors and a single front-mounted motor. The prototype is fully operational as well, with 2024 Xfinity Series champion Justin Allgaier at the helm for testing at the Carolina Motorsports Park. 1. Lipstick on a pig. CUVs are old lady vehicles. Grandma Motors is out of touch.

      1. If by that you mean the world is waking up and tired of mentally ill women and weak men turning everything to crap, then sure. Whatever you need to tell yourself.

        1. The CYV is a far more useful vehicle than the muscle car you need to compensate.

          1. “Useful” is for everyone to decide for themselves.

  2. Who expected the family station wagon to make a comeback. IMHO it’s better than a 4 door sedan.

  3. I wait to see GM shove it’s wokeness down the already dwindling NASCAR fans throat. They just don’t get it. NASCAR is the smoke and thunder of ICE powered vehicles that is as traditional as Kentucky Moonshine. How stupid can you be GM. Sooner or later your customers and the stockholders are going to get enough, but I don’t think Trump’s administration is going to bale you out this time.

    1. I remember GM’s stock being around $90 a share. They better get some VAROOM back in the company, starting with some transparency about their losses. Not just in the U.S. but worldwide. And how about putting some Americans back to work.

      1. They made 15 billion last year. It was their best ever. Probably because they only sell luxury priced vehicles.

The reason the stock price was $90 a share was because of Cruse. Since Cruse was crapped out and the fact GM has a priced competitive disadvantage to the imports, their stock price is no more than it was coming out of bankruptcy. That’s a hint at the future.

    2. No, silent racing is boring. Guy brought a Tesla to autocross and sure it was quick, but also the most boring thing to watch.

  5. This is so LAME!! Hahaha. GM is so stupid. If it wasn’t for the Trucks and the vette they would be out of business. Such a waste of a once legendary company.

  7. I’am a huge racing fan of all the series. The minute they go electric I will drop them like rock and never watch or attend another race again . I have no interest in watching those soulless whoosh mobiles. Further more the government needs to let us decide what vehicles we want to drive instead of forcing them down our throats.

  8. Looks pretty good really, but please no electric!! Maybe a V8 powered hybrid I could live with that.
